Ellen Page, wearing a hat and sunglasses, confronted presidential hopeful Ted Cruz at the Iowa State Fair on Friday while he was grilling porkchops and ABC News caught the exchange on-camera.
The duo got into a debate about religious liberty and LGBT discrimination. Page asked Cruz about LGBT people being fired for being gay or trans and he said, "Well, what we're seeing right now, we're seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith."
"You're discriminating against LGBT people," Page said to Cruz, as quoted by ABC News. The actress asked him if he would use that same argument when discussing segregation….
"No one has the right to force someone else to abandon their faith and their conscience," he said. He then switched the standard narrative of a Christian florist denying wedding flowers to a gay couple. "Imagine, hypothetically, you had a gay florist and imagine two evangelicals wanted to get married and they decide, 'You know what, I disagree with your faith and I don't want to provide flowers,'" said Cruz.
ABC News reports the actress and politician spoke to each other for five minutes and Cruz said he hadn't known it was Page at the time of their conversation.

Pastor Cruz,
who is the father of Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), made his remarks during an interview
with conservative leader Phyllis Schlafly on her radio program “Eagle Forum
Live.”
“We need to
realize that the attack on marriage is more than just an attack on marriage, it
actually goes to the heart of religious freedom,” said Pastor Cruz.
“Because,
you see, what is going to come next -- and this is part of the danger of what
may happen out of the Supreme Court in June -- is that if marriage of
anybody-with-anybody becomes a civil rights issue,” he said, “then they are
going to come to churches and force pastors to violate their religious
convictions.”
“And so it
is going to come to America to where a pastor is going to be faced with a
decision: Do you obey a law that is not only unjust but violates your core
principles, or do you obey God and face prison?” said Pastor Cruz.

The Mining Journal of his decision to prohibit Bishop Gumbleton from speaking
publicly.
Bishop Gumbleton was scheduled to speak at a
prayer service at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on "Gospel's Call: Action for
Peace," and at Peter White Library on "Vision for Peace: Abolition of
Nuclear Weapons," both timely and critical issues. Bishop Sample's reasons
were that questions may arise on controversial issues, e.g. homosexuality and
ordination of women as priests. At the same time, however, he noted that these
were not the issues of Bishop Gumbleton's talks, but questions may be asked
about these issues and his duty was to shepherd us.
As an active member of the Catholic Church, I
respect Bishop Sample's duty to shepherd us, but shepherding should not
prohibit open dialogue and questions which may arise on controversial issues.

Paul Ryan’s bishop Robert Morlino of Madison was chief spokesman
of the far right Catholic group The Napa Institute this year to discuss the
Institute conference's theme of “The Next America”.
When they discuss ”The Next America” they are describing their
noble fight as martyrs against the secularism endorsed by the African
Muslim/Protestant in the White House.
And like all their PR campaigns there are two key coded words or phrases
to mark the storyline. (Recently
Religious Freedom / Religious Liberty to whine about being victims of imagined
delusional discrimination and to demand bigger cuts of taxpayers’ dollars to
dole out soup and no condoms to the poor.)
The “Next America” is perhaps synonymous with the “New Evangelism”
phase of the hell fire, Bilderberg rhetoric which will probably be the new duo-coded
phrases of the upcoming election and post-election media cycle.
When I hear the term the “Next America” I picture a fascist
American state where daily attendance at a Latin Mass is mandatory in that new “Next
America” that Archbishop Charles Chaput probably envisions, the Franco Spain Model, as one of the founders
of the Napa Institute. And my taxes to build a new $100 million dollar cathedral for Bishop Morlino, so deserving of such an honor.
I don’t know what secret conferences or private orgies were
conducted in underground caves at the Napa Institute’s recent happening. I do know that SF Archbishop Sally Cordileone
celebrated a two hour long Latin mass and sermon against money changers along with his
favorite obsessively indulgent homophobic topic against marriage equality.
The Mass was held in a cave / wine cellar. How atmospheric and how like the catacombs
just like with the early Christians that plotted the demise of the Roman Empire.
One of the conferences held by Paul Ryan’s local bishop was
presumably held above ground and dare I say it in a “modern(ism)” style structure
complete with electricity and indoor plumbing. Oh the corrupting influences of
secularism!
Bishop Morlino, in case you
bother to read has already stated that he only serves Rome and not the United
States or her people.
During
the 2008 presidential election, Bishop Morlino criticized House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi and Senator Joe Biden for their remarks regarding abortion on Meet the
Press. Rebuking the two pro-choice politicians "because they claim to be
Catholic," the Bishop accused Pelosi and Biden of "violating the
separation of church and state" and "stepping on the Pope's turf and
mine."
There are no coincidences in the RCC. Morlino,
Paul Ryan’s local bishop, was there to greet, meet and pump GOP donors and give
reassurance to all good American Uber-Catholics about their future “special status”
in the Romney Ryan White House.
The
conference at the end of July no doubt passed (wink,nod) its list of Approved Catholics
to the Mitt Romney team topped with Paul Ryan’s name and his 110% Catholic
Rating.
Mitt contacted and offered the
VP slot to Paul within the next 48 hours.

1960-1986 timeframe as quoted in the press.
The time frame

In Illinois, Catholic Charities in five of the six
state dioceses had grown dependent on foster care contracts, receiving 60
percent to 92 percent of their revenues from the state, according to affidavits
by the charities’ directors. (Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Chicago
pulled out of foster care services in 2007 because of problems with its
insurance provider.)
When the contracts came up for renewal in June, the
state attorney general, along with the legal staff in the governor’s office and
the Department of Children and Family Services, decided that the religious
providers on state contracts would no longer be able to reject same-sex
couples, said Kendall Marlowe, a spokesman for the department.
The Catholic providers offered to refer same-sex
couples to other agencies (as they had been doing for unmarried couples), but
that was not acceptable to the state, Mr. Marlowe said. “Separate but equal was
not a sufficient solution on other civil rights issues in the past either,” he
said.
Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Rockford
decided at that point to get out of the foster care business. But the bishops
in Springfield, Peoria, Joliet and Belleville decided to fight, filing a
lawsuit against the state. (NYT 12-28-11)
Of course all this present article, of making
possible connections along a time line came together for me while looking up
the Argentine Papal Nuncio during the Videla Regime in Argentina in the person
of Cardinal Pio Laghi.

Laghi was
named Nuncio to Argentina on 27 April 1974. His six years
in Argentina coincided with the worst excesses of the military dictatorship in
what was known as the dirty war. Many in Argentina believe that the
church hierarchy supported the generals in their misrule, and that Laghi - who
played tennis regularly with one of the leaders of the junta,
Admiral Emilio Eduardo Massera - turned a blind eye to the murder and
disappearances of thousands. "Perhaps I wasn't a hero",
Laghi later said of his time in Buenos Aires, "but I was no accomplice".[citation
needed]The debate that his conduct generated was enough, however, to
ruin any chance he ever had of becoming pope.[citation needed]
Pope John Paul II transferred him as Apostolic
Delegate (10 December 1980) and later (26 March 1984) Pro-Nuncio to
the United States, where he was entrusted with emplacing conservatives in
key positions, such as Bernard Francis
Law in Boston and John Joseph O'Connor in New
York.
Pio Laghi was BTW Primary Consecrator to the level of Bishop
in Rapid City South Dakota of – Charles Chaput – in his salad days out west
being groomed no doubt for speeches on “religious liberty” just like the one he
delivered as key note speaker in Washington DC on July 4 as culmination of the
USCCB’s attack on the Department of Health and Human Services, the guys who cut
the checks for “Catholic Charities”.
