Pope Francis – Talk Softly and Carry a Big… (Moxie)

Francis has finally taken a stand on Civil Unions and Gays, verbally at least and in an interview, parts of which his media gatekeepers have backed down on or polished down without directly challenging his supposed papal supreme authority.

The tone that civil union is acceptable for Gay Catholics and that dogma would not at present permit the idea or the letter of man-made Church Law from extending the Sacramental of Marriage to non-heterosexuals, is appropriate at this time in terms of talking about the idea of marriage or the union of two people and or two souls. Better late than never. A start perhaps?

This guy Francis is preaching from the lifeboat long after the European POV regarding the Roman and or Western – ship of state – church has crashed, burned and gone to live with the little fishies at the bottom of the ocean. 

This man has some real moxie, like him or not.

That his un-polishing of dogmatic belief a bit and or temporal papal power is a communication all along that these turds in mitres should have been selling in similar fashion. Apparently Francis did this and as the news article I read, briefly mentioned this without exact detail of “other” bishops making this same stand in the past and probably around the same time as Francis as Archbishop of Buenos Aries.

The Far Right has gotten into this far too comfortable (with power) for little people, literal dogmatic “Marriage is between a man and a woman.” definition thing and it is their way or the highway bullshit. No gray area and need for discussion or accommodation of the gray areas that Catholic theologians should have been talking about in the recent past, before King Wojtyla shut them down, fired them and introduced Polish as the only official language of the common most acceptable definition of God thing.

Some softened – talk softly but carry the big stick of authority – rhetoric is long overdue on the religious definitions of marriage and contraception in the real world integrating with a very dense complex modern worldview of this new emerging evolving global culture.

There was I think some 14 minutes (literally) fuss and or phony grass roots Koch fed “controversy” regarding a cute little Cheerios “heart healthy” TV advertisement with a very subtle visual subtext and what appears to be an interracial couple, white and black, with an interracial female offspring.

Some phony “million moms against everything modern” group with 3,000 odd (emphasis on the word odd) actual moms and an obsolete E-Mail spam list from Newt Gingrich’s most recent tax set up and or political campaign protested in vain.

The so-called controversy petered out in 14 minutes no doubt because of modern demographics and the young who yawn or wonder why Scarlet O’Hara’s antebellum world still has any meaning whatsoever in the modern global culture.

So too recently, a cute car insurance TV advertisement with an apparent interracial couple, Asian and Black with both a talking mime and a talking baby.

No controversy there. Apparently in Scarlet O’Hara’s Miss Havisham nightmare like existence of old white men and old white women in the south, color matters, the color of the penis that is. 

This no doubt because adultery and fornication between the races of old sometimes left proof of the hypocrisy that that dying old local culture would try to preserve forever without rhyme, reason, purpose or contraception.

Catholic Charities – an Oxymoron?

I believe the Prince Bishop Dolan the other day was on the Martin Bashir news hour on MSNBC and threatened to close shop on his NYC Charity racket if the black man in the White House did not give into his imperial demands for privilege and entitlement and the right to deny female employees chemical/medications also known as contraception.

As I understand it, taxpayer money is used for some social services and or charities and administered by Dolan’s charity racket that gets to skim off a percentage of the cash as profit - fees.

In a way, I do not know how all this got started, the church in the secular social services “charity” distribution stuff.

Everything in NYC seems to have to function and operate along the mob business model with the alpha organization getting a cut before distribution to the general population whether it be food, petrol, education or even charity.

It is a strange thing. I seem to remember forty years back in Philly when I was still more or less Catholic (less) and I read about the local annual Catholic Charities Appeal that was exclusively a charity by Catholics only and for Catholics.  I remember reading at the time that the majority of the monies collected were going for construction of nursing homes. The question arose as to why.  

The answer dictum ex cathedra via Cardinal Krol was that the nursing homes were needed to house the parents of priests and nuns. The premise being that the Charity had to take care of these elderly people or else the priests and nuns would have to exit their jobs and do so privately. And since it was post Vatican II, there was a mass exodus to the doors already of the clergy and religious. Made perfect Catholic sense at the time.

That charity these days to Catholics as a base is paid for by secular tax dollars and beyond that “charity” goes to non-Catholics? Who designed this fucked up Rube Goldberg charity system/racket?  George Bush?

Fast forward forty years.  I think I have read that the Prince Bishop Dolan’s bailiwick and the mob’s Catholic bailiwick in Brooklyn are self-insured in the healthcare thingy – cutting out corporate healthcare insurance middle men.  Strange that Prince Bishop Dolan wants the Prez to drop a standard that his employees might demand under self-insurance.

This whole social services thing, administered with add ons to the Catholic Charities business model and organization, mixes a small few percentage points of Catholic money with a majority percentage of secular taxpayer money and it is still called Catholic Charities.  Why is that?

This whole contraception debate is just so new-fangled, says billionaire investor and mega-funder to the super PAC supporting former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) for President, Foster Friess.

In a simpler time, there were other ways to deal with female sexual desire. “Back in my day, they used Bayer Aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly,” he said Thursday on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, setting the host back for moment.

The general conversation was about Santorum’s past statements about contraception, who once said that it was “harmful to women.”

Mitchell: Do you have any concerns about some of his comments on social issues, contraception, about women in combat, and whether that would hurt his general election campaign would he be the nominee?

Friess: I get such a chuckle when these things come out. Here we have millions of our fellow Americans unemployed, we have jihadist camps being set up in Latin America, which Rick has been warning about, and people seem to be so preoccupied with sex. I think it says something about our culture. We maybe need a massive therapy session so we can concentrate on what the real issues are. And this contraceptive thing, my gosh, it’s such inexpensive.
