I have been watching your topic Charles Chaput since he tossed two first graders into the street in Denver in Father Breslin's parish because the two kids moms were moms and or lesbian.

He ranted and raved I believe more about MSNBC and probably on Fox News in 2011 to say that the American Media were anti-catholic for not reporting on a World Youth Day in Spain that year.

That was the cover story that I believe after some research was a response to some so-called desecration of a state owned chapel in the State Controlled Complutense University in Madrid. 

That the background on lesbians making political points in a political theatre of a state owned and supported chapel was a response in fact that an anti-gay Gang(s) of devoted Catholic Fascists patrolled the campus at night with clubs to make certain no gays would meet in public in a public university after dark. Gay reactions to violence against gays and ignored/endorsed by the police was the other half of that Chaput story. Chaput is only interested in half truths IMO. etc.

As I remember the local newspapers, TV and radio in the day would fawn at the sight a Philly archbishop deigning to step half a foot out of the old 10 acre Cardinal Dougherty 61 room Bishop's Palace on City Line Avenue to give the media their 30 second soundbite or half a column hardcopy interviews. I believe that lent as much to the recent Philly unpleasantness of abuse by clergy thingy as much as internal Catholic hierarchy mismanagement. Whatever.

The Front also targeted organized labor and tried to replace union officials, deemed too radical or Jewish, with "Christian leadership".

When the war came, the FBI rounded up about 3,000 of the worst agitators of these foreign and domestic funded groups and locked their heineys up in detention camps etc. for further processing and interrogations. (eternal shades of Gitmo) (no priests rounded up at that time that I know of)

The present  Catholic Front, Religious Liberty Front, Fortnight of Freedom Front does not outwardly advocate the same anti-Semitism of  1930s America as much as they advocate veiled racism, misogyny and anti-gay hatred. They of course feel comfortable these days hanging out with the Mormons, John Birchers and Fundamentalist Right, though I don’t think those righties feel the same comfort having to hang with the papes.

In any case, the old game plan, game book from the 1930s works best on a purely money, power and greed basis regarding any temporary political alliances across diverse groupings of thugs.

Following through on the fascism of the Irish Parish of my youth, St. Joan of Arc Harrowgate, Philadelphia and the founding pastor, an Episcopalian priest turned papist, I have to reexamine some of the childhood myths I had constructed by word of mouth and set forth in some of my writing.

I had written a short story illustrating the anti-Semitism that existed in my old neighborhood before my birth via the oral history of a visitor to our house in my youth who had once lived in our house.

In that story I make a man I never met, Msgr. Hawks out to be some sort of hero in that he fought anti-Semitism in that neighborhood of the 1930s in his dealings with a local Jewish tailor. 

I was greatly shocked when I did further research recently to see that Msgr. Hawks had quite a track record amidst the fawning admirers and apologists for Franco, Hitler and Mussolini.

It comes on back of some recent comment from another writer about how all families have ghosts and or skeletons of things left unsaid over the decades and centuries of family histories.

I am thinking right now how oral tradition reached me from my father how his parents were regular listeners of the infamous Father Coughlin of fascist anti-Semitic radio fame of those turbulent late thirties and early forties in America.  

In fact I remember my father pointing out some rural site on one of our Sunday family drives in the country and can remember him describing the place as once having been a popular summertime picnic grounds for a local Bund group.  It went over my head at the time. I do have quite a memory and now that he is dead I cannot go back and ask for further details. Such is life.

But getting back to Msgr. Hawks at St. Joan of Arc.

Franco Shrine to Close in Philly – Saint Joan of Arc Church Harrowgate

I find it extremely ironic that Francophile Charles Chaput with his blue ribbon committees and bankers to derivative-ize / bundle the Archdiocesan real estate portfolio before his next promotion, would could overlook this Sufi-like shrine in Philly to the secretly sainted Generalissimo.

I also find it ironic or even questioning the management style or lack of it from a temporary Vatican hack in the form of the Canadian American person of Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philly waiting around for his next real and or important assignment by the Vatican after this temporary Hatchet Job (hand job) gig in the city of brotherly luv.

Saint Joan of Arc Church will close on June 23 at noon.  It’s founder Msgr. Edward F. Hawks was quite a writer and defender of General Franco and his regime in Spain during and after the Civil War there.

I never have quite understood the whole Father Coughlin thing in the depression era except that the Canadian priest had such a powerful media grip through radio on the American people and the love of Germany and Spain and Italy as fascist regimes along with anti-Semitism was a growing political threat to FDR and that the Boston wing of the American Catholic church through Joe Kennedy on behalf of FDR had Coughlin silenced through then Bishop Spellman and through then Cardinal Pacelli (later Pius XII) and his intervention via the Vatican in that silencing.

That in all the writings of I have seen, you see the fascism part of the Catholic Right in America, the emphasis of the love of fascism was also a means to confront the Reds and or Communist movement in Europe and in America.

Now that Communism is a threat to no one, the Right Wing of the Catholic Church in America serves up love of fascism as nostalgia and or support of pure anti-human market place capitalism.

I see that the Boston wing may have silenced Coughlin but the Philly wing under Cardinal Dougherty and via the Archdiocesan Newspaper and Msgr. Hawk’s pro-Franco, pro-fascist weekly column, that not all regions of the US RCC always acts in unison.

I also find it strange how the fascist saints of Saint Joan of Arc and Saint Thomas More got resurrected in the 1920s and continue to this day as coded symbols in the advancement of power at the ultimate expense of humanity.

That and the Knights of Columbus involved in right wing politics in the 1930s continues all the way to today.

Catholic Fascism in America – 1933 – the Movies, Media and Mind (Crowd) Control

Reading some of the data below made me recollect that I never saw my father go to the movies.  Our mother took us to the movies on occasion but for the most part it was just us siblings that made the trek to the local art deco palace, the Midway Theater in Philly, on most Saturday afternoons.

In fact my father never had a kind word for Hollywood when the topic would arise and his non-praise of the industry often contained descriptives that were in fact anti-Semitic.

Having done some research, apparently there was a cultural divide whereby I think the impact of talking motion pictures in the late 1920s and early 1930s and the standard violence of gang mob movies of the era got combined in the minds of the consumer with movies about divorce and infidelity.

The Christian Right was a little behind on this curve back then and it was the Catholic Church at the point in trying to gain control over the “artistic” abilities of a new industry.  These days, many complaints about videos games, violence, sex and the product does not fit into any old standard niche. Which leaves some to protest and want to control Content.

The movie industry that was new was trying to sell a product and did not want control from the church crowd or even the FDR big government crowd.  Somewhere in all the cultural war over movies came the Catholic Legion of Decency out of Chicago. But it did not have any legs or arms until outsiders came into play and manipulated the scene to gain power over the present then situation.

Having grown up in Philly, I had heard about the mighty Cardinal Dougherty who apparently did not issue a mere appeal for a Movie Code but a full Catholic Fatwa in 1934 against the whole movie industry, forbidding all Catholics to totally boycott all cinema.  A fatwa that he never bothered to rescind.

Ironic that about this time in 1935, Dougherty bought his humble forty plus room palace on the Philadelphia Main Line with its nine acres of privacy that had a private movie theater for hisself and his cronies to watch Hollywood movies.  Hypocrite!

My father, the son of a church sexton, do doubt had the fear of God of being seen anywhere near a movie theater.  His father’s reputation and possible livelihood rode on the shoulders of a young teenager, a feeling I think that never left him. This looking over your shoulder is a feeling I think a lot of people in the present world, the recent and past world, speaks against the concept of freedom and for a government controlling the lives of its people in a fascist state. 
   

Hollywood picked up on the sexual laxity in the country and began making movies that depicted scenes that offended the Church. American Catholics were used to being told when to stand, sit and kneel, so when Cardinal Dennis Dougherty of Pennsylvania declared that Hollywood’s movies were entirely based on sex and violence and forbid all Catholics to attend movies on pain of serious sin. Catholics listened and movie attendance dropped dramatically. Catholics did what they were told. 

When the movie moguls threatened to close all movie theatres in Philadelphia and put 15,000 people out of work in the time of the depression, the Cardinal said–Good, close them! They didn’t! The ban remains in effect to this day. The League of Decency came into being as Catholics drifted back to the theatres to face the threat of placing one in a state of an occasion of sin. 

That the guiding force that gave the American Catholic Bishops the push to do the most and take on Hollywood was none other than the recently appointed Papal Nuncio Amleto Giovanni Cicognani.  Cicognani was appointed Nuncio to coincide with the new FDR administration by Pius XI, the pope who signed a treaty with Mussolini to settle territory disputes from 1870 and to create the bizarre political state of the Vatican.  Pius XI also gave away Catholic political rights in Germany to the new Hitler Administration in exchange for private church perks and privileges.

The German Concordat and the Lateran Treaty gave legitimacy to Italian and German Fascism by the Catholic Church for the sake of the private political agenda of the global Catholic Church.  Many say these two treaties are the basis, remote enabling factor, of the 50 million deaths in World War Two including the estimated six to twelve million victims of the German Concentration Camp Archipelago.

During World War II, Cicognani expressed reservations about Zionism. In a letter dated June 22, 1943 to American representative (to the Vatican)  Myron C. Taylor, he said: "It is true that at one time Palestine was inhabited by the Hebrew Race, but there is no axiom in history to substantiate the necessity of a people returning to a country they left nineteen centuries before …… If a 'Hebrew Home' is desired, it would not be too difficult to find a more fitting territory than Palestine. With an increase in the Jewish population there, grave, new international problems would arise.”

The fact that a Papal Nuncio was the spark to an internal secular matter regarding the movie industry controlled largely by banks and Jewish CEOs and managers makes me think that in the early thirties the RCC could do favors for Italian government and German government power agendas courtesy of an accommodating pope.

After more than three years of unholy and unwholesome screen fare, Catholics formed an organization to beat back the plague. Its official name was the National Legion of Decency—morally upright Protestants and Jews might enlist as well—but the group was known as the Legion of Decency or, more ominously, simply “the Legion.” 

A notion that had percolated in Catholic circles for years, the Legion took formal shape in October to November 1933, after Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani (American Papal Nuncio), speaking at the National Conference of Catholic Charities in New York on the authority of Pope Pius XI, denounced “the incalculable influence for evil” exerted by the motion picture screen. 

“Catholics are called by God, the Pope, the bishops, and the priests to a united front and vigorous campaign for the purification of the cinema, which has become a deadly menace to morals,” said the bishop. Within a matter of weeks, the Legion of Decency congealed into the most feared of all the private protest groups bedeviling Hollywood. 

Backed by a coordinated network of Catholic weeklies whose front-page headlines, editorial broadsides, and scare-mongering cartoons fueled parishioner outrage, the Legion lanced Hollywood’s hide with pitiless zeal. It had numbers, focus, energy—and a blunt instrument. “Worn out by promises, tricked by pledges, deceived by codes, and dismayed by filth, the Church has finally decided to take action in the one way left for it—boycott,” warned Chicago’s Catholic weekly, the New World. 

The Legion was as good as its word, and it put its word into writing with a brilliant tactical device, the Legion pledge. A prayer-like pact, the Legion pledge was a contractual avowal signed by parishioners and recited in unison at Sunday masses, Knights of Columbus meetings, Ladies Sodalities gatherings, and parochial school assemblies. 

“I condemn absolutely those debauching motion pictures which, with other degrading agencies, are corrupting public morals and promoting a sex mania in our land,” affirmed the pledger. “Considering these evils, I hereby promise to remain away from all motion pictures except those which do not offend decency and Christian morality.”

The picture at the top of the page is the Papal Embassy in Washington DC, home of the current Papal Nuncio / Embassador Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò who you might remember is persona non grata these days in the Vatican and the basis of a great deal of dissent within the Vatican Curia regarding the dictatorial and extremely corrupt Bertone/Ratzinger administration, framed in the media under the title "Vatileaks".  

Which means the control from Rome no longer filters through a papal embassy but rather directly to the papal foot soldiers of the USCCB ready to take away our secular civil liberties through fascist propaganda “religious liberty” PR campaigns and such.

While I do not think that the RCC will ever have the dictatorial powers of a Cardinal Dougherty to attack the “Jews in Hollywood” like the 1930s, the RCC Rome can send millions of dollars into PACs and try and manipulate the American Election in 2012 via bishop/cardinal puppets, Dolan etc. following allegiance not to the United States but the King of Rome, Benedict XVI.

Cicognani BTW was American Papal Nuncio for twenty five years. He was instrumental in helping my cousin, his one time protégé, to carve out five counties of the Philadelphia Archdiocese into the new duchy diocese of Allentown Pennsylvania.  

The Allentown Diocese was a consolation prize for my cousin for not getting the Cardinal’s chair in Philly.  (Or so the family oral history states.)  That Philly chair in terms of papal and American politics got taken away from the traditional Irish American holder of said territory in favor of a new ethnic/economic center of power in America, perhaps negotiated by a Papal Nuncio, in the form of the Polish American future king/pope maker, John Krol.

Abortion and Pat Buchanan’s White Christian Army

Pat Buchanan of the cable MSNBC hate network, owned by Comcast, is an old man, aged 73, who laments the lost dreams of his youth, of that Fascist Government that has yet to be installed in Washington DC, of statues of General Franco to be erected on the Mall, or the sad fact that the old South has not been restored into a white man’s only paradise.

Pat is a regular on the Morning Joe show, which IMHO is a mishmash of moron conservative talking heads, with one token blonde female added as local color and contrast.  Every time the token female opens her mouth, she is promptly put back in her place as local color and contrast.  She does her acting job well, playing the submissive house wife to Joe, with that entire barefoot and pregnant attitude while still being sexy wearing her stilettoes.  I think she claims to be a journalist.  Like her peers over at Fox News, all Journalists in America used to be Journalists.  Whatever.

Pat is also a built into the set regular on the weekly syndicated, Vatican approved, The McLaughlin Group. It is like a useless, drooling, nursing home pundit commentary show on the PC for GOP matters, going back to the days when the GOP actually still had PC and cloth coats.  The McLaughlin Group has fascist corporate funding so it is still on the air forever even though it jumped the shark way with the living public back around 1986.

Pat is being criticized for publicly lamenting the demise of the White Majority in the United States by 2041.  He is making the rounds of hate radio selling yet another version of all his similar themed books which all can easily be categorized with a symbolic title like “There Is No Reason Why the Germans Should Have Lost World War Two!” or something to that effect.


The old man is going off and I have heard old men with Alzheimer’s repeat the long term memory things which is what I think Pat Buchanan is doing just about now before he is forced to retire.

The link at the bottom reads more like an “op/ed from a rural Mississippi paper in the 20s” but then again everybody is a critic or pundit these days. Here is the least offensive part of his racist rant:

Pat ran as President as an independent in 2000 where he got less than 1% of the vote, just ahead of “Mickey Mouse” and “None of the Above”.

He did some hack Martin Bormann (who?) type kiss ass job in the Nixon regime.  In fact he was the only person in the White House that did not know the deal about Watergate.  That is how far out of the loop he was in that kiss ass, boot licking job in his glory days.  

(And that is the nicest thing anybody can really say about him ever and no doubt it or something like it will be carved on his gravestone: - “Watergate? What’s that?” - “Yes Mr. President”. - “Deep Throat? That was a great movie sir – real artfully and tastefully done.” - And let’s not forget his daily WH mantra “That is real cream in the coffee I brought you sir.” Or - “Huh? I told you guys, I ain’t queer!”)

If I could put a type on Pat Buchanan if he were a type, I, at least, can picture him in a collar and cassock and he reminds me of the type of priest in high school I would have to constantly avoid and was afraid of being raped by.  Whatever.  That is my phobia, not yours.  But just to say…watch your back and your butt anyway.  (Pat is RC)

Getting back to the long term dreams of Pat and his crowd as they have discussed the future American Reich while sucking on tax payer expensed bourbon over the decades with right wing lobbyists in DC restaurants or over at the DC Papal Nuncio’s Palace - there is this need to produce more white people and the only way you can raise the zombie South or make Roman Catholicism the official faith of the United States is to stop all abortions and birth control in America. 

Why? To raise a master white race army to rule in America again?  Take back “our” country.  Having an African descent President in the White House has sent shock waves into the delusional safe world of the white race in America all the way from Alabama to Montgomery County Pennsylvania.

But that does not make any sense.  I have often wondered why they don’t want abortions for the poor with all this recent GOP and southern anti/women, anti/vagina legislation.


Government may too big for social services but somebody has got to tell these stupid white fucks that is it time to man up and woman up and procreate just like God and the RC church say so. 

Won’t that increase the population of the racially inferior people as Pat Buchanan obviously sees them? 

No. That’s what the border fence issue is all about.  Keeping them out.  Sending them back too.  Right?

And the other minorities left in America? Somebody has got to dig the latrines for the White Man’s Corporate Army or be nannies and house maids to the Mutterkreuz moms.  Just like before Truman started all this integration bullshit with the military way back when.

Anyway, in Pat’s mind you got to go back to basics, like the Mormons and bang out soldiers, soldiers, soldiers to keep the apartheid side of town or heaven pure. Defense of Marriage Act has got to be amended to define marriage as being only between one white man and at least four white women.  Not quite Catholic sharia law but the Mormons will gladly secretly pay cold hard tax-free cash for that kind of constitutional amendment. 

Whatever. 

The Nazis and the French in the thirties before WWII gave out medals to women for banging out soldiers for France and or Germany.  The German Medal was called the Mutterkreuz, pictured above w/o the evil center symbol, the twisted cross.  The medal was given out in three orders:  Bronze, four kids or more, Silver, six or more, Gold, eight or more.

Good luck with that Pat.  Good luck in your upcoming retirement too.

He should retire and play with the thousands of Frederick the Great and Wehrmacht lead soldiers rumored to be in the basement in his house across the street from the CIA, next door to Dick Cheney's new McMansion. He and Dick can play together.
