Starbucks Joins Monsanto’s Suit to Queer Up Food Labeling Law in Vermont

The legendary rocker announced that he's boycotting Starbucks over the coffee monolith's alleged involvement in a lawsuit in Vermont regarding the labeling of genetically modified ingredients.

"I used to line up and get my latte everyday, but yesterday was my last one," Young wrote on his website earlier this week. "Starbucks has teamed up with Monsanto to sue Vermont, and stop accurate food labeling."

Young's referring to a law Vermont passed last spring that will require food labels to specify whether they're made with genetically modified ingredients by July 1, 2016.

…But the Indiana farmer, Vernon Hugh Bowman, who had signed such contracts for his main crop, said he discovered a loophole for a second, riskier crop later in the growing season.

For that second crop, he bought seeds from a grain elevator filled with a mix of seeds in the reasonable hope that many of them contained Monsanto’s patented Roundup Ready gene.

Seeds from grain elevators are typically sold for animal feed, food processing or industrial uses. But Mr. Bowman planted them and sprayed them with Roundup. Many plants survived, and he replanted their seeds.

Monsanto sued, and a federal judge in Indiana ordered Mr. Bowman to pay the company more than $84,000. The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which specializes in patent cases, upheld that decision, saying that by planting the seeds Mr. Bowman had infringed Monsanto’s patents.

Justice Kagan agreed, suggesting that Mr. Bowman had been too clever for his own good.

Mr. Bowman’s main argument was that a doctrine called patent exhaustion allowed him to do what he liked with products he had obtained legally. But Justice Kagan said it did not apply to the way he had used the seeds.

“Under the patent exhaustion doctrine, Bowman could resell the patented soybeans he purchased from the grain elevator; so too he could consume the beans himself or feed them to his animals,” she wrote.

“But the exhaustion doctrine does not enable Bowman to make additional patented soybeans without Monsanto’s permission,” she added, and went on to say that “that is precisely what Bowman did.”

The poor in America, a large part of the hated by the elites 47%, without easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables, eat corn chips, corn flakes, fast food fried in CORN OIL and drink sodas full of a processed industrial waste product aka High Fructose CORN Syrup. Maize = Corn. 

Who would have thought when Charles de Gaulle told NATO and the United States to fuck off in the sixties, he might one day by his actions in creating an independent French Mindset, that he would be considered the indirect salvation of a greater future Europe in protecting the food supply from foreign domination, experimentation and contaminaton. 

France Maintains Key Ban on Monsanto’s GMO MaizeCrops

In another massive victory against Monsanto and the spread of genetically modified crops, French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayraul has announced that the nation will be maintaining a key ban on the only remaining GMO currently allowed in Europe.

Known as Monsanto’s GMO maize crops, or MON810 maize, the original ban was brought forth back in March following the French court’s previous annulment on a November ban.

Thanks to activism by French citizens and serious political outcry, Monsanto is now effectively blocked from Europe’s gigantic marketplace.

This is even more true when you consider the fact that France is the largest grower of crops in all of Europe, making it an agricultural behemoth of sorts. With this move by such a large and influential nation, it will surely lead to similar legislation to pop up and succeed throughout the rest of the globe. Of course like with most other decisions regarding Monsanto, even Reuters admits (see first link) that France was under large amounts of pressure to ‘soften’ its stance on GMOs.

This is due to the fact that Monsanto has significant pull when it comes to government around the globe, with the United States in particular being the ‘launch pad’ for the biotechnology movement. We now know thanks to WikiLeaks, in fact, that United States ambassadors have actually threatened nations opposed to Monsanto’s GMO maize crops, going as far as to threaten them with ‘military-style trade wars’. When considering that this is but one leak, it is very concerning.

French study finds tumors in rats fed GM corn

(Reuters) - Rats fed a lifetime diet of Monsanto's genetically modified corn or exposed to its top-selling weedkiller Roundup suffered tumours and multiple organ damage, according to a French study published on Wednesday.

Although the lead researcher's past record as a critic of the industry may make other experts wary of drawing hasty conclusions, the finding will stoke controversy about the safety of GM crops.

In an unusual move, the research group did not allow reporters to seek outside comment on their paper before its publication in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology and presentation at a news conference in London.

Brazil Court Orders Nestles to Label its Monsanto GM Genetically Modified/Mutated Foods

The creeping arm of the Corporate Food Monster has been set back a bit in Brazil regarding GM (genetically modified/mutated) Food and GMOs (genetically modified/mutated organisms).

After a long legal battle in Brazilian court, Swedish food corporation Nestlé has lost and will be forced to label their food products sold within Brazil as containing genetically modified ingredients. 

As a major purchaser of Monsanto’s genetically modified crops, many, if not the majority of, Nestlé’s products contain ingredients from genetically modified food. The court ruling mandated that the food giant be required to label anything containing more than one percent genetically modified ingredients accordingly. 

This comes shortly after Poland banned GMO corn and Peru banned GMOs completely. 

Talk of Nestlé’s loss has been all over Facebook and twitter, and has fed the fire of debate over the safety of GMO food. The U.S. government has been a huge advocate of GMOs and Monsanto, but concerned citizens of California have put Proposition 37 on the ballot for the November election. 

Prop. 37 would require that genetically modified foods sold within the state of California be labeled accordingly to protect consumers and allow them to make informed choices about their food. Concern surrounding the safety of GMOs is at an all-time high, and Nestlé has failed to engage in the conversation via social media – even as their brand has been at the center of the debate, lately.

Monsanto – The New Bread of Life – God? – Vandana Shiva thinks not!

I ran into Bill Moyers Journal with the Indian Activist Sandana Shiva and my third eye opened up in terms of putting the Global concept on the individual level that I try to follow and document.

But the disturbing thing is how International Corporate Agri-Business is gobbling up the third world like in India and killing off hundreds of thousands of farmers through suicide who can no longer live or compete on their small plots of once fertile and plentiful food producing land. They can’t compete with the new God Monsanto – and its patented re-definitions of Food and God.

I am getting old.  I can remember when Monsanto was a chemical company primarily into the production of linoleum. Linoleum? What’s that? Told you I was old.

But my getting old is not the issue. The issue is how the global corporations are taking the global concept to a control all level of the human existence.  Humans no longer count in the Agri-business global model.  Humans and Farmers – being tossed off the Global Corporate Spreadsheet genetically engineered at Wharton, Brown and Harvard.

Monsanto is not God! Though it is trying to play God all over the planet with its genetically altered food, patenting it and monopolizing worldwide food production in that only its patented seeds are the only seeds available now to many farmers in the third world.

That lies that genetically altered seeds produce more food, greater yield, are even believed by fools like Bill Gates of Microsoft.  Bill better get off his high horse if he genuinely wants to help humanity and not corporations.
