A display in the Virginia town square came and went and did not become another fake far right Christian GOP religion talking point in the media. Amen.
A display of a skeleton in a Santa Claus suit placed on a cross was erected at a courthouse in Leesburg, Va. It was eventually taken down by an anonymous individual.Julie Grandfield, assistant to the Loudon County Administrator, explained to The Christian Post that the individual responsible for the display went through the system.“Board of Supervisors currently has a policy in place to allow displays on the courthouse lawn,” said Grandfield.
I have stated on more than one occasion that Jesus born on April 17 is not the right birthday boy attached to this Roman Pagan Holiday of Christmas.
I see all the feigned outrage in the public forum of put “Christ back into Christmas”? Whatever that no-brainer FOX NEWS meme is all about? Well that equation makes us shut down all the retail outlets selling us pagan junk to properly celebrate this Pagan Holiday ( Birth of Apollo – Jesus’ half brother etc.)
Regarding Virginia putting all points of view on display in a public – kudos. Regarding the actual crucified Santa thing – not really art – decoration perhaps – another Tim Burton imagination thing – but definitely not art. Get a day job please etc.

NAACP Petitions UN over U.S. Conspiracy to suppress Voter’s Rights and Access for Minorities
The largest civil rights group in America, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is petitioning the UN over what it sees as a concerted efforted to disenfranchise black and Latino voters ahead of next year's presidential election.
The organisation will this week present evidence to the UN high commissioner on human rights of what it contends is a conscious attempt to "block the vote" on the part of state legislatures across the US. Next March the NAACP will send a delegation of legal experts to Geneva to enlist the support of the UN human rights council.
The NAACP contends that the America in the throes of a consciously conceived and orchestrated move to strip black and other ethnic minority groups of the right to vote. William Barber, a member of the association's national board, said it was the "most vicious, co-ordinated and sinister attack to narrow participation in our democracy since the early 20th century".
In its report, Defending Democracy: Confronting Modern Barriers to Voting Rights in America, the NAACP explores the voter supression measures taking place particularly in southern and western states.
Fourteen states have passed a total of 25 measures that will unfairly restrict the right to vote, among black and Hispanic voters in particular.
The new measures are focused – not coincidentally, the association insists – in states with the fastest growing black populations (Florida, Georgia, Texas and North Carolina) and Latino populations (South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee). The NAACP sees this as a cynical backlash to a surge in ethnic minority voting evident in 2008.

What did Newt Gingrich pay for his three Annulments? – Benedict XVI’s Chosen Catholic U.S. Prez Candidate?

I may be dense (stupid) or lazy in my research but I cannot find out how fast or how much Candidate Gingrich paid to get the three annulments from Civil Marriage in order to marry his present Catholic wife in the RCC.
I get a lot of non-information in the Lame Lame Lame Street Media on this. I get the opinion that he doesn’t have to annul civil marriages not in the RCC? That has changed?
I did not marry in the RRC twenty odd years ago because the church wanted $2,500 to annul my wife’s previous ceremony at City Hall in NYC - a lot of money back then that we could not spare - that and time, months and months, perhaps years to annul what in Grade School, the Nuns said was not valid to begin with.
BTW, since Catholics are the only validly married Christians in the eyes of God, meaning to this day all Protestants are still Bastards because their parents did not have a Catholic marriage etc. – why should the freakin Catholic church even care if Gays and Lesbians will be satisfied by a civil marriage at city hall????
Since civil marriage does not count in the eyes of Holy Mother Church, why the f*ck so much fuss over gay marriage if after all the gays and us Prots are damned to hell anyway in their eyes, civil marriage or not?
Hypocrisy to the nth degree in the RCC?
Getting back to Newt. How fast and how much did Cardinal Wuerl? get to grease Newt’s marriage into heaven worthy status.

Glass Wax Christmas - Harrowgate - Philly - 1950s
My early memories of Christmas put it starting about two weeks before the holiday in the late 1950's.
The Department stores: Lit Brothers, Gimbels, Stawbridge and Clothier and the top end carriage trade store John Wanamaker all started things the day after Thanksgiving. Going to downtown Philadelphia was an outing for us kids and we came downtown using the elevated train, the Frankford El. The trip was more window shopping than buying.
The close to home activities would begin in earnest about two weeks before the holiday. No doubt Christmas budgeted items came out of the weekly paychecks closest to December 25th.
Recycled items such as a flat plastic sheet, nativity scene, for the upstairs bedroom window came out of the cedar chest along with foil covered paper-mache bells for two living room windows and a plastic Santa's head with an internal light went on the outside of the front door. Single candle sticks were in each window on the front of the row house and with a single blue bulb each.
The lighting of the window lights was a sacred nightly ritual.
One innovation or marketing gimmick I remember was the use of stencils on the windows with a glass cleaning product called Glass Wax. The product was to be spread on windows, let to dry, and then wiped clean with a dry cloth weeks later after Christmas. In this holiday use, you would sponge the opaque pink liquid onto Christmas type stencils of angels, Santa Claus, a snowman and a reindeer etc. It was all very primitive in terms of marketing but magic in terms of a hands-on participating childhood.
I don’t know when others bought real live Christmas trees but we bought ours as close to Christmas eve as a day or two and it sat in the yard until Christmas eve when the older kids got to stay up late and decorate it with blue glass balls and a single string of blue lights. The only thing not blue was a gold glass beaded garland that wrapped the tree from head to foot. That and metal, not plastic, silver icicle strands.
In any case the house smelled of a pine tree that had been cut only days before and traveled from upstate.
We did not have or want those new Sputnik Trees, all artificial aluminum branches and serenaded with a rotating multi-colored light. That was the kind of tree that older people without children went in for.

Of course I had my doubts how Santa would get to every house in the world – I was already thinking globally. I accepted the facts as my parents relayed them. Santa may come in person but more than likely we would get a surrogate, a Santa’s helper and making deliveries out of an old Nash automobile (they had big interiors). That was how it all worked according to my parents in order to insure my ever growing questions about this whole scenario.
My most vivid memory was waking up at about five a.m., it still being dark, and looking down the stairs at the blue ornamented tree that was not there when I went to bed. The tree stood in the dark with a strange glow of street lights coming through open blinds and muted with a glow of light off a recent snow fall.
I remember the excitement of opening presents. Turkey dinner was not a big deal.
The big deal was the imagination and anticipation and the thoughts of magical myth that gripped a young child’s mind of five.

USCCB – Bully Pulpit – U.S. Catholic Bishops - Lobbying War on Women and Gays continues…$$$ 26 millions worth

$26,000,000 in bribes, fees paid by the USCCB, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, is a lot of chump change, a lot of little old ladies’ dollar bills in the collection plate on Sunday, to lobby Congress with in the ongoing discriminatory war on women and war on gays.
Recently, I took note of a back-and-forth between Michael Sean Winters and Tom Roberts at National Catholic Reporter, in which Roberts calls into question a persistent meme of Winters' reporting on behalf of the U.S. Catholic bishops. Roberts notes that Winters's defense of the bishops depends on asserting and re-asserting that Catholics are under "attack" today in secular culture, and that anti-Catholicism in American culture lingers on and feeds the "attacks" Catholics are experiencing.
Roberts doubts the viability of this meme of anti-Catholic attack when, as he notes, Catholics are "liberally sprinkled" all through "the most powerful quarters" of the nation's political and economic life. And when the Supreme Court is dominated by (conservative) Catholics.
And now this piece of information comes down the pike, and I think it's going to be even harder for the U.S. Catholic bishops and their centrist spokespersons to keep the victim meme alive: the Pew Forum has just released a report showing that the USCCB ranks number two of all faith-based lobbying groups in D.C., with $26,662,111 (and see Kevin Clarke at America on the Pew report) spent on lobbying activities in 2009. That's a hefty chunk of change for a victimized little old minority group suffering societal persecution to have at its disposal to try to wheedle and cajole legislators to do its faith-based bidding.
Men Behind the War on Women
A group of men with no real background in law or medicine, but blessed with a strong personal interest in women’s bodies, have quietly influenced all of the major anti-abortion legislation over the past several years. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops may be one of the quietest, yet most powerful lobbies on Capitol Hill, with political allies that have enabled them to roll back decades of law and precedent.
Over the past two years the GOP-controlled House of Representatives has launched one of the most extreme assaults on women's choice the U.S. has seen in decades. Republicans voted twice to slash federal family planning funds for low-income women, moved to prevent women from using their own money to buy insurance plans that cover abortion, introduced legislation that would force women to have ultrasounds before receiving an abortion and, most recently, passed a bill that will allow hospitals to refuse to perform emergency abortions for women with life-threatening pregnancy complications.
But the erosion of women's rights didn't begin with the GOP takeover. President Barack Obama's health care reform law contained some of the most restrictive abortion language seen in decades.
Lift the curtain, and behind the assault was the conference of bishops.In the 1930s, Catholic demagogue Father Charles Coughlin never dreamed of the power that the RCC in America now has, can acquire simply by buying it, here in the future.
