Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia.

They never ratified the ERA Equal Rights Amendment and a ratify by a certain date had never been imposed before on any constitutional amendment, thus paving the way for a non-neanderthal, non-majority-catholic U.S. Supreme Court to knock down the artificial barrier to its passage.

Illinois is working on being the 36^th state to ratify.

That leaves two states needed for passage in the primordial redneck soup in the deep South of America aside from the Mormon western states.

The performance, a protest against the church's support for Putin, was part of a lively protest movement that at its peak saw 100,000 people turn out for rallies in Moscow, some of the largest in Russia since the Soviet Union's demise.

The plight of the three women, who have been held in a courtroom cage during pre-trial hearings, has also drawn attention in the West, where governments are closely watching how Putin will handle dissent.

Rights groups and musicians such as Sting and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have expressed concern about the trial, reflecting doubts that Putin - who could serve until 2024 if re-elected in six years - will become more tolerant.

In her opening statement, read out by defence lawyer Violetta Volkova, Samutsevich said she saw the prosecution as "the start of a campaign of authoritarian, repressive measures aimed to ... spread fear among politically active citizens."

Amnesty International has called for the release of the defendants, two of whom have young children, saying the charges are not a "justifiable response to the peaceful - if, to many, offensive - expression of their political beliefs."

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev dismissed criticism of the case in remarks published on Monday, saying the trial was a "serious ordeal" for the defendants and their families but that "one should be calm about it" and await the outcome.

There is a fight going on in the American Catholic Church regarding control between the Wall Street Money Guys, the Bishops and the traditional “love your neighbor” nuns and other progressives who actually believe in Jesus’ message of humanity.

In the Los Angeles Times of 4 July, a full-page advertisement similarly announces that "It's Time to Quit the Catholic Church" and urges liberal and nominal Catholics to vote with their feet and "please, exit en masse." In March, a similar ad also appeared in the New York Times, and in May, it appeared in USA Today and the Washington Post. 

The controversial billboards and advertisements are directed against the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' recent "Fortnight for Freedom" and Catholic dioceses that are currently suing the US Department of Health and Human Services over its ruling that US women be offered birth control as part of their insurance plans. This campaign to leave the Church appears on the heels of the Vatican crackdown against the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, an organization that represents most of America's approximately 57,000 sisters. In April, the group of sisters was reprimanded for reportedly supporting women's ordination to the priesthood and the rights of homosexuals. The nuns also were accused of not taking strong enough stances against abortion and euthanasia.

The billboards and newspaper ads are sponsored by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a watchdog group founded in 1976 by Annie Nicol Gaylor and her daughter, Annie Laurie Gaylor, who is the Foundation's current co-president and author of Women Without Superstition: No Gods, No Masters. The Foundation and its 18,500 members should be applauded for promoting women's rights to access contraception apart from religious interference. The group should also be commended for its nearly 35-year commitment to erecting a higher wall separating the church and the state: it seeks to end government funding for religious activities and works to halt illegal religious instruction in secular institutions. … 

… This week, a group of bold nuns, who envision economic justice as God's will, is concluding its nine-state bus tour to protest the budget proposal of Congressman Paul Ryan (Republican, Wisconsin) that would cut social services like Head Start, food stamps, and housing subsidies.

Insulting and Dangerous – Crony “Faith-Based” Capitalism

There was an op-ed article in the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday by the current bishop there stating how the HHS mandate for full women’s healthcare is somehow “insulting and dangerous” to Charles Chaput’s sacred tradition of faith to denigrate women and their body functions.

“Many Catholics are confused and angry. They should be.”

The church is confused because the bishops do not listen to women. When women talk, the bishops hear nothing. This “hold the pickles, hold the lettuce” dietary rule for females only, regarding healthcare, is a bit not true deli and does not ring true to the rest of us in the American Equality pursuit of happiness thingy.

That somewhere along the timeline, George W. Bush started doling out government bailouts to the churches, who by the way no longer listen to their members, who by the way no longer sustain their membership numbers now that these churches have their crony business fronts for the poor in the form of “social service” programs – whatever that means.

Churches are no longer in the business of faith.  

Churches are simply in business.  And getting crony government bailouts in the process.

Surely in these hard economic times, many of the bloated contracts being handed out as Pork to these “faith-based” crony capitalism organizations could be done more cheaply and efficiently in the private secular sector of the economy.

That way, the meager healthcare services offered to the crony relatives of these crony handout “faith-based” programs to these churches will no longer have to be challenged by any HHS mandates.

No exceptions or religious privileges will have to be demanded by this new generation of screaming neo-con welfare queens – the bishops – once they go out of business and go back to “Faith”.

In other words, get your lips off the government teat and stop whining about being abused as you more than likely mismanage the government crony dole you are now getting on the tax payers' dime. 

Man up Religion! Get off the dole!

Faith!  Or get off the pot.
