Governor Pat McCrory wants state lawmakers to act quickly to repeal, revoke, or
rescind the City Of Charlotte’s recently-passed law that will protect LGBT
people. The ordinance would also allow transgender citizens the right to use
the public rest room that most closely conforms to their gender identity.
The North
Carolina governor has insisted even before the legislation passed that he would
find a way to invalidate it, and has asked state lawmakers to do just that.
The law goes
into effect April 1, and the state legislature’s short session does not begin
until April 25. GOP lawmakers are weighing an early special session just to act
on Charlotte’s nondiscrimination ordinance, but Gov. McCrory would like them to
wait, as that would cost taxpayers $42,000 per day.
But McCrory
will be satisfied either way.

actually a little less savory to 21st century Americans: The religious right,
who liked to call themselves the "moral majority" at the time,
actually organized around fighting to protect Christian schools from being
desegregated. It wasn't Roe v. Wade that woke the sleeping dragon of the
evangelical vote. It was Green v. Kennedy, a 1970 decision stripping tax-exempt
status from "segregation academies"—private Christian schools that
were set up in response to Brown v. Board of Education, where the practice of
barring black students continued.

finished reading it, I thought of the dogmatic idea of Intelligent Design about
how IT all supposedly follows some plan.

against that magnificent master plan? Shame on you Loren. How dare you save
life on a micro level when on a macro cosmic Wharton Spreadsheet level, it has
already been written off as part of a prescribed “divine” plan.
Or people of
faith will say that God gave man dominion over the creatures of the earth and
Loren and his friend are merely exercising free will under the animal
management clause of that so-called Intelligent Design Contract?

Clergy / Child Abuse Cottage Industry in Johnstown Altoona RC Diocese
ALTOONA,
Pa. — Two Catholic bishops who led a small Pennsylvania diocese helped cover up
the sexual abuse of hundreds of children by more than 50 priests and other
religious leaders over a 40-year period, according to a grand jury report that
portrays the church as holding such sway over law enforcement that it helped
select a police chief.
The
147-page report issued Tuesday on sexual abuse in the Altoona-Johnstown
Diocese, home to nearly 100,000 Roman Catholics, was based partly on evidence
from a secret diocesan archive opened through a search warrant over the summer.
In
announcing the findings, Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane said the
diocese's two previous bishops "placed their desire to avoid public
scandal over the well-being of children."
No
criminal charges are being filed in the case because some abusers have died,
the statute of limitations has expired, or victims are too traumatized to
testify, she said.
Of
the victims, Kane said: "Their souls were killed as children. They weren't
out playing baseball; they were trying to avoid priests."

"The diocese will not apologize or take responsibility
for its dark history," the report said.
In a practice seen in other dioceses, the bishop created a
"payout chart" to help guide how much victims would receive from the
church, the report said. Victims fondled over their clothes were to be paid
$10,000 to $25,000; fondled under their clothes or subjected to masturbation, $15,000
to $40,000; subjected to forced oral sex, $25,000 to $75,000; subjected to
forced sodomy or intercourse, $50,000 to $175,000.

also obtained a redacted police report * from a September 2005 incident in
Austin, Texas, where Heidi Cruz was found sitting in a grassy area in between
an onramp and a freeway, with her head in her hands and no sign of a vehicle
nearby.
According to
the report, the responding officer believed Heidi was a “danger to herself,”
and gave her a ride home in his patrol car. Heidi Cruz told police she wasn’t
drunk (saying she’d only had sips of Margarita with dinner) and hadn’t taken
medication. The officer said he didn’t detect intoxication.
The incident
happened after the Cruzes had been living apart, with Ted in Texas as solicitor
general and Heidi at the White House, working at the National Security Council
reporting directly to Condoleezza Rice, according to Buzzfeed. She then
returned to Texas to take a job with Goldman Sachs as her husband planned a run
for statewide office that didn’t come until five years later, a brief bid for
attorney general in 2010.

Pope Francis to Meet Patriarch Kirill in Clandestine Meeting in Jose Marti Airport in Havana

Pope Francis
and Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church more or less the successor
of the Patriarch of Constantinople since the fall of Constantinople in 1453 to
the Turks, have agreed to a brief meeting, like ships passing in the night.
Before that, the Patriarch of Constantinople stood for almost a thousand years as the head of Christianity as mentioned in the Book of Revelations. Rome took over in 1453 with the pretense of being the center of Christianity after that. The Orthodox church or what was left of it moved north to Moscow.

with Kirill on Feb. 12 at the Havana airport, where they will sign a joint
declaration.
The two
churches split during the Great Schism of 1054 and have remained estranged over
a host of issues, including the primacy of the pope and Russian Orthodox
accusations that the Catholic Church is poaching converts in Russia.

Robert Finicum, 55, of Cane Beds, AZ., labeled “tarp man” by MSNBC who interviewed him through his tarp some weeks back, was one of the Oregon Standoff militia that seized government property, was shot dead yesterday in a standoff with the FBI on a highway 50 miles from the seized Oregon property. ( Cane Beds Az, is a road intersection five miles south of the Utah border btw. )
