Constantine the Great's Pwned Sarcophagus

If you tier down to my amateur historian level and try to find something available on the net and not yet available from all those ivy weed college libraries and their ancient, in the last century, bound hardcopy research materials, you start to see some really blatant lies and or chasmic sized discrepancies told by both the Catholic church hierarchy and misc. degreed, vested, meal ticket, publish or perish, historians.

Like after Constantine decriminalized Christianity in 313 C.E. with the Edict of Milan, then you have all these stories about his illiterate mom who he hid away through most of his career. Constantine, being born out of wedlock to a Roman soldier and an inn keeper’s daughter, you then have mom running around the empire nearly eighty years of age finding all the one true relics of this or that member of saints’ bodies and or of course the one true cross. 

The Vatican museum has the above pictured sarcophagus listed as Saint Helena’s final resting place.  Reading around and you get all sorts of PR nonsense about how the sculptures on the stone box represent a hunting scene and that it was intended as Constantine’s own Sarcophagus but mom died first and he shoved her into it because in her old age he had not already planned ahead or built the old lady any resting place. Yeah right.

This Sarcophagus pictures war scenes and torture of prisoners on their way to death and or sacrifice at the hands of Constantine’s secret Sun God Mithra/Serapis army cult religion?

The old lady, who goes to Jerusalem for Sonny to find the true cross in a shape that did not exist in Pilate’s time and nails, then orders the destruction of the Temple of Venus over the site of the Holy Sepulchre and then orders, pays for one of the trashiest, slumfest-e-ist looking monuments in the history of western civilization.  Give me a break.

The Muslims never tore this trashfest architecture down. It got burned down when the candles started a fire and the Muslims paid to rebuild it to insure domestic tranquility. 

The propaganda got turned around and we had the First Crusade.  Sweet.

The old lady gets attached to unsubstantiated male created urban legends, myths, PR lies and such like Mary, the mother of Jesus. She gets recruited to near god like sainthood and evangelistic fervor and non-intelligence promoting Sonny’s new Roman Empire religion as the typical go along female doormat misogyny for men’s mischief and “tradition” (lies). Zzzzz.  Anatomy is destiny or is it merely human politics?

Vatican - Too Big to Fail - or Fall ?

Through the various phases of Christianity in the past has been the layered effect. Layer by layer, each group or hierarchical agenda got added, subtracted, fused, misused, slammed, bammed and flimflammed.

Somewhere along the time line, a reformed Judaism of Paul got fused with the floating message of Jesus. After that, Constantine fused, morphed Christianity into a palace decoration and political tool. Through the dark and middle ages, the various centers of Christianity, mostly in or near Turkey faded from economic and also religious importance.

The wave of Islam that overtook the obsolete Roman city view of things in the middle east reduced Christianity to two centers of hierarchical importance, Constantinople and Rome.

Constantinople was the Roman Empire’s primary capital as the city of Rome faded into an unstable backwater destroyed and plagued by vandals and barbarians for a thousand years.

Somewhere along the timeline around 1040, a schism happened between Rome and Constantinople. I have not done much research on it because anything I read will have been written in the west and tell the western version of what caused a break with the eastern church. All I do know is that it was probably about power and money and on both sides to some extent.

Following timelines, one sees the western church shortly thereafter start the Crusades to bypass Constantinople and this inability to militarily hold onto the holy shrines of the so-called holy land.

The motivation was not so much salvation as promised by the pope to all soldiers headed east as it probably was the hope that Rome could reestablish its economic as well as religious importance and prestige in the total of Europe. The crusades were about power and money. The shiny trinkets and relics sold to tourists was a sideshow to the religious political power game being played on a world scale.

One of the crusades managed to sack Constantinople and under the flag of Venice. That sack weakened the walls of Constantinople and the city never got over the sack. The city fell something like two centuries later to the Ottoman Turks, a new rising empire on the make which happened to be Muslim. It was not a Muslim crusade, it was a power grab - and an indirect gift from Rome.

Rome by default was now the center of Christianity. Part of the schism in 1040 had the west or Rome start the celibacy thing out of the blue as official policy. The celibacy thing was never imposed within the eastern Christian church which allows its clergy to marry to this day.

Rome further split into schism in 1517 with Martin Luther. Henry VIII split for political and economic reasons. The princes and kings of northern Europe went the way of Protestantism as much for power as for a cultural difference with the Mediterranean culture of Rome and its church.

The church of Rome countered the Protestant Reformation with a Counter Reformation in the Council of Trent shortly thereafter and set dogma into the cement of the Catechism. All dogma and answers to the laity were in several hundred pages of the Catechism. If it was not found there, you had no reason to ask anything else. Shut up, be a good catholic or join the Prots.

There is one thing in the present child abuse meltdown in the Catholic Church that keeps coming back to me. That is how a priest, any priest who memorizes hundreds of pages of boilerplate religion and serves in the rituals and functions of the church is too valuable a church asset to defrock over the mere sin – crime – of rape and abuse and against defenseless children.

In a way, priests are part of the Too Big To Fail bullshit mismanagement concept that the bullshit American banks are now touting. Was the Vatican a model for this style of management for these banks?

Too valuable to defrock – too big to fail – they all speak of too important – more important than the child or the individual that somewhere on the timeline Jesus thought was the most important part of the original Christian religious equation.

Looking at this private all male – love of penis – cult that rules the Roman Catholic church of Rome in the Vatican, it is a hard nut to crack. Hard nut to crack even in the light of reality and civil authority and common sense and modernity.

The RC church looks as the growing numbers in Latin America and Africa and Asia and knows that in fifty years, the bullshit the enemies of the church are trying to saddle them with will go away. Bullshit to the bishops over the rape of children as not important as compared to the – too valuable an asset / too big to fail – “celibate” priesthood.

The RC church, the entity, whatever it is, will be, endures even if its soul and moral authority evaporates into nothing. The numbers are there. Just God help all the future victims of this infallible corporation and the rest of humanity for the rest of time.

It becomes increasingly evident that the Church of Rome will be replaced in the United States by bona fide legitimately ordained men and women in the Independent Catholic Church Movement – now still splintered but it will come together in the vacuum of the void of moral authority now emanating from Rome.

Men and women priests of several independent Catholic organizations that have survived, broke away after Vatican I under the slavery loving pope Pius IX, will grow.

That these organizations have survived with a purpose from the Holy Spirit to one day replace the corrupt and demon filled buildings and obsessions of the Vatican City political state.

All this is waiting to be fulfilled if Rome continues to do nothing about the corruption and seeming hatred of people, children, women – in the present Too Big To Fail Vatican Power Equation.

Religious Fright! - Fear of Religion

Rather than move the world forward in a positive manner, many aspects of religion no matter how “peaceful” your one true religion is, many aspects of religion are a redundancy decades or centurties after secular institutions began to function in the place of ancient religious insitutions such as courts, hospitals, universities and civil government.

Indeed, I think that religion here in the west is just hanging around after it has been become obsolete on the secular civil level. As such what good is it except to clutter those secular institutions with superstition and useless remembrances of the past.

The past is the past. The Modern World is now. A Post-Modern world is tomorrow. There seems to be a lot dead weight regarding religion trying to drag us away from modernity.

That dragging people into a mindless past with Sharia Laws, Islamic or Christian, is anarchy – trying to destroy the secular real, functioning, world around us.

In the news I see sad things in that seven people were mowed down in gun fire at a Coptic Christian Christmas Mass celebration in Egypt. Fully 10% of Egypt’s 80 old million souls are Coptic Christian which these days comes close to Eastern Orthodox Christianity in their beliefs.

There are also fire bombings at Christian churches in Malaysia, an Islamic Country, where a court ruling said that it was legal for Christians, a minority, to use the word Allah as the word for their G-d in Christendom. Semantics. Bloodshed. Misunderstanding.

I am looking briefly at the concept of post modern Christianity with various mainstream and evangelical fundamentalist branches of the Christ tree trying to rethink and retool not to a modern world – but a post modern world – whatever that means. The here and now is modern enough for me.

I will say that dialogue if it exists at the high CEO level of church entities doesn’t talk to the little people on the ground on how to rethink and retool- sounds like I am talking automobiles in Detroit – more so than churches – Religion is like General Motors – only the empty factories give evidence of a once great human enterprise. Empty churches – empties factories – Obsolete thinking! Gross mismanagement of purpose.

The RC church, the so-called power house of Christian entities that should be setting the pace on post modernism, if there is such a thing, is still wallowing in the 32 years of Vatican mismanagement. Still languishing in the disaster reign of Pius IX in the nineteenth century who started the war on modernism (like a similar war on terror – it will never end).

In fact, Vatican II and all its negative fallout to this day forty odd years later is partially a result of trying to undo 32 years of RC/Christian gross mismanagement of humanity and its spirituality. The Vatican likes electricity and flush toilets (very modern things) but everything else that is not medieval is Verboten.

Indeed, Benedict’s attack on Islam, a new holy war, his infamously incompetent and tactless reference to Islam in the 14th century in his Regensburg Lecture in September 2006 is something mainstream Christianity will have to deal with in terms of collateral damages for decades and perhaps centuries to come. Perhaps bloodshed in the news today in Egypt and Malaysia has its direct roots in that very same speech.

While one part of Christianity wants to address interfaith issues and improve the perception of Jesus’ message to the ages, bumbling hack Vatican bureaucrats are still debating the bloody Crusades!

There is a point in time long ago where the secular world took over most institutions in the West. Rather than give the devil his due, I would say that most of Christianity lives in the delusion of the past before street lights, electricity, running water, penicillin, birth control and all those other truly evil things of a modern world.

Religion, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism Etc. must look at reality first in the present and assess where they have been or where they are going. Otherwise, the coming rapture happens to them all - as they get whisked away into obscurity and history. Good riddance.

The Coptic Christian killings above is indicative of the dysfunctionalism of Islam in Egypt. Before Obama’s visit to Cairo earlier this year, the hack cronies of the Government decided that the pigs being raised by Christians in Cairo would cause a national swine flu epidemic even though there was little or no scientific data to support such a slap in the face of the Coptic minority population which eats pork.

The pigs were confiscated and destroyed. Compensation from the Government did not materialize. What would you expect – Justice?

The Moral of the story of Egyptian Muslims harassing Coptic Christians in Cairo - The pigs used to eat the garbage in the streets. The pigs are gone. Now all of Cairo smells of rotting garbage. If you want to be post-modern and or even modern world, start a secular garbage collection bureaucracy before you impose your stinking religious prejudices on the entire world. Think first – cause and effect.

The west and the Christians can learn from the lack of tolerance to others in the smug present world moving into a future world. That world will likely see the decline and disappearance of all religion because the guy in the back end of the Donkey costume does not know how to signal or cooperate with the other guy in front end of the suit. Or vice versa.

We are all interdependent in this world -“joined at the hip”- if it takes a hundred years to start up an interfaith dialogue, guess what, the secular will survive while your religious world crumbles and disappears.

Religions will come and go in the post-modern secular world. Whether there will be any religions left in that post-modern world? Well - one third of the passengers of the Titanic did after all make it all the way to New York.

In the meantime, garbage will continue to be picked up in a timely secular fashion.

Reality is real. Religion frightens me.

Loose Change

The Pope is in Australia talking to young people about Moral Relativism and I am encouraged if he is asking these impressionable minds to study Sartre, Hume, Spinoza and Nietzsche and not to accept his Cliff Notes version of the subject matter. There is the old line about how if you can frame the perimeters of the argument then you can probably win the argument.

I doubt that Jesus ever studied Sartre, Hume, Spinoza or Nietzsche or ever had the need to.

This week a famous publication, The New Yorker, had a “satiric” cartoon in the minstrel style of the original mission statement of the magazine founding in the 1920’s. Ultra liberal types seem to be accommodating themselves to the fact that the next President of the United States is not going to pure bred, burb bred, or drug brain dead like themselves. Oh the insecurity of the ruling classes! Oh the cost of psycho-therapy these days!

I make reference to the fact that there was an American flag burning in the oval office fireplace of this “satiric” spoof illustration. Spoof illustration for The New Yorker would have had Christopher Hitchens being water boarded and seeing a vision of Mother Theresa (God rest her great soul!).

I got put in my place by someone and was told that the burning flag thing was a cartoon and therefore not a valid talking point. Whatever.

After almost two decades of non-stop radio hate-mongering and right wing fascist propaganda sputtering out of the burned out, thieving, lying, pension fund looting conservative movement, I think that maybe the boring monolithic Byzantine politically correct brain dead democrat club is about to return with a vengeance, to descend onto this country in the same horrific manner as the recent conservative non-thought movement, and like a plague on logic in the near future.

It is good to be the elite in the USA, to only have to deal with your politically correct neighbors in the local country club and only occasionally wonder who all the other people on the TV screen or outside your gated community or concierge-doorman serviced high-rise are all about. Then the percocet takes effect and all is well with your world.

The global economy and the global mindset is not going away. The idea of you living in peace and harmony in your global village (gated community) and communicating by telegraph with the rest of the world, to and from your mines and mine overseers, from out there somewhere, and people earning a quarter an hour or even better a quarter per day - That model, that monster is about to bite America in the ass. Is biting us in the ass right now.

Was the collapse of Christianity part of that half century old Ivy League model of perfection with the corporate spreadsheet model of the global village?

When our secular world invaded the other parts of the planet with fast food and disco - Was there a back up plan or an exit strategy for the impromptu corporatist non-moral system exported along with the cappuccino?

When we set out on the crusades were they to conquer Islam or to bypass the greedy christian middlemen of Byzantium? What did we get from the crusades? Diapers and Gothic cathedrals? Perhaps the real Holy Grail in Jerusalem was an old Greek mathematics book to make cathedrals possible.

In any case, the global conversion is on. Do the world’s montheistic religions merge (yuck!)? Do they learn the tolerance they all claim to have at the base of their philosophies? Does a little bit of Buddha get thrown into the formula? I don’t know.

This primitive Cultural Christian can see great things in our future as a planet and as the people of God. I know that the Sermon of the Mount will be reiterated in the centuries to come both here and beyond here and travel with the human race to the stars.
