Revival of Whitecapping of Minorities by Trump's Mob Base

Bullies operate from the threat of violence. The person(s) threatening others have strength through body, mind or mob power to intimidate and punish others with words backed up with that real or implied threat of violence.

Trump operates as a bully in his hate delivery to his hate base. Bullying language to women, the disabled, people of color, people of other religions or beliefs.

Until now, Trump has not attacked the Gays that I know of. But his base hears the dog whistle and hears code or whatever and Gays are part of the Neanderthal menu of the right and their H8 Menu.

His base is motivated and empowered to yell at people for speaking Spanish in restaurants in NYC, one of the two most diverse sections of real estate in the United States, the other being Los Angeles.

Empowers them to slap people in airplanes and their service dogs. Empowers them to assume that a person of color asleep on the couch of a common room of a dormitory in an I-Vee league college, that that minority, could not possibly be a student there, does not belong there and call the police on them etc.

The recent incident of a half-assed telephone app taxi company like LYFT throwing two gays out of his gypsy (registered, inspected, insured-?) cab into the street at a red light to leave his place of business, his car, because they kissed in his back seat.

These gypsy cab set ups are sold as free enterprise and free of government regulation but they are built on premises that the person doing the selling of the product, the cab ride, is free to make a living. Only problem is that in a real world with government the people who work hard to own a taxi cab license and or medallion to earn a living, do so in conforming to community standards to operate and serve all who pay for the services. They have responsibility to conform to a greater and wider good that serves all people.

Problem with Whitecapping Gays and threatening them with indirect and or implied violence, a hidden gun or knife, a fist or a baseball bat, to dump them in the middle of traffic is that an underlicensed enterprise operating on an app operates from his or her small bubble and or community standards. That all who do not conform, the disabled, people of color, of other faiths and of the Gays, operates in a narrow world empowered by an evil and biased entity in the White House.

Whitecapping minorities, bullying them, implying violence by one or a group, to do immediate harm is UnAmerican and NAZI and does not belong in this land of the free and the home of the brave. 

Whitecapping

The Whitecapping movement started in Indiana around 1837,^[6] as white males began forming secret societies in order to attempt to deliver justice independent from the state. These groups became known as the "White Caps". The first White Cap operations generally aimed at those who went against a community's values. Men who neglected or abused their family, people who showed excessive laziness and women who had children out of wedlock are all prime examples of possible targets.^[7]

As whitecapping spread into the Southern states during the 1890s, the targets became drastically different....

Day of Rage in Tucson Arizona 2011 - Revisited

I lived and worked in Tucson Arizona for close to eight years back in the 1990s. I worked for a short time, 100 yards down the road from the recent mass murders there that involved the shooting of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords of the U.S. Congress.

As stated I worked down the road from the Safeway and its parking lot, the scene of this recent American-style tragedy. I even ate lunch a few times in a food court setting in the front of the supermarket way back when. 

I researched this matter of the shootings that took the life of a nine year old girl among others. The date is January 8, 2011. Seems like two months ago instead of one month to me. Time seems to be compressed sometimes concerning memory. 

I had written an account of the attack on Rep. Giffords Tucson office at the end of the debate and vote on Health Care Reform last year. The attack in the middle of the night and broken glass brought to mind the terrible tragedy of Kristallnacht in Nazi controlled Germany in November 1938 against Jews in the population. I made reference to that event because Ms. Giffords is Jewish.

The apparently troubled young man who did the shootings and these murders seems to have bought into a uniquely American style of settling arguments or supplementing mental disorders with guns. 

Because I had been in this place in Tucson and knew its layout I did not write anything or comment until now. I felt the tragedy in a personal sense having a shared experience of the geography with the victims. I should also note that it took me five years to finally write down my experiences of the 911 tragedy here in NYC. 

No Guarantee of Tomorrow

I also wanted to turn a corner in this blog whereby I did not want to poll parrot the party line coming out of the media. The media turns on cable and cable turns on the middle class who can afford it. The media rightly or wrongly from left or from right seems to feed on the energy of rage both in content and filler. I need to and we all need to as well step back from the edge of that rage that permeates our complex modern society. 

Rage is not only a middle class thing but perhaps a middle aged thing. It comes from the disappointment from expectations not fulfilled. It comes from recognizing the disappointment from the perspective of age and or wisdom from life experience. 

I do not want to merely echo the media and its sounds of fury. 

Now a month later I can look and see how death by random acts of violence is fed by rage and guns. 

I do not object to hunters having rifles in their homes with or without permits. I do object to weapons of war with high capacity discharge being sold in America. They are not necessary in a civilized society. 

I think that licensing handguns within the confines of city limits is the right of the well being of the population of that densely populated city to assure protection from violence and violent mental illness spilling into the streets and onto the parking lots of America. 

I am not advocating repeal of the second amendment’s right to bear arms. I am trying to find common grounds with all parties to seek a solution to too much gun power in America and to too many guns. 

The days of the wilderness are long gone. The days of conflict with the native Indian population are long gone. In the twenty first century, a fetish for guns and gun power is a bit outdated and obsessive. It speaks of the breakdown of community and loss of civility in our society. 

The gun lobby and the media lobby both seem to be catering to keeping the rage up to sell their products. Whatever. 

I am glad that Representative Giffords survived and may well have a normal life returned to her after much therapy. 

Prayers for the victims and their families in Tucson. Prayers for the perpetrators, both the lobbyists of hate and rage, as well as for the disturbed young man who committed this crime.

By cutting away from the video mid-chant, FOX's segment paints protestors as explicitly calling for the murder of police. They've depicted a non-violent protest about accountability for police brutality as a bloodthirsty mob.

Our democracy is fragile. It is very disheartening that elements of the mainstream media that I term Hate Radio and Hate News are on a 24/7 bellicose attack on all things government.

It is time for some ambitious district attorney, democrat, republican, independent somewhere to bring Roger Ailes of FOX NEWS and Sarah Palin up on some conspiracy, incitement to commit violence charges.

Palin of SarahPAC, a charity of sorts for has been half-politicians who openly - hint, hint, wink, wink - advocates violence against the elected representatives of the government with target crosshair symbols on her web page against Democratic enemies and their seats up for re-election in Congress.

Ailes of course, the man who helped get Nixon elected with false advertising is the model for the main Jon Hamm character in the AMC cable show “Mad Men”. As president of a “news” department at Fox, he is the one ultimately involved and responsible for incendiary language coming out of the mouths of paid actors on his news programs.

What's Behind The Wave of Right-Wing Health Care Violence?

I am particularly hurt by the attack on Representative Gabrielle Giffords congressional office in Tucson in the middle of the night, early Sunday Morning with a brick through that window.

In total five windows seemed have been smashed across the country. Three at local democratic party offices. Two were against the offices of two congresswomen. An article in the Christian Science Monitor which I thought to be a balanced honest paper showed its true colors by playing down, ignoring the violence against Congress Women and then quotes Rep Boehner out of context, like he really deplores violence.

That article was questioning the validity of vandalism on the property of Congressman Tom Perriello’s brother after his brother’s address was posted online as the Congressman’s address. The address was posted in the hopes that some moron would do violence against Tom Perriello or his family.

Was Rep. Tom Perriello targeted for his vote on healthcare bill?

Hitler and his brown shirts before they came to power were nothing more than street thugs, throwing rocks, breaking windows, intimidating, bullying etc. not unlike the Tea Party movement that the GOP hopes to nurture and absorb rather than let it become independent and free to destroy the presently comatose Grand Old Party.

Representative Giffords in the 8th district of Tucson is Jewish and married to an active duty serviceman Mark Kelly, also an astronaut.

My interest in Tucson is having lived there for close to a decade in the recent past. The thing is with two corporate whores liked Jon Kyl and John McCain hogging the two senate seats of Arizona, the only address most citizens have in petitioning the government with legitimate grievances is through the one liberal congressperson that usually represents the one solid liberal corner of the state in Tucson.

So when I hear that the closeted brown shirts like Sarah Palin has a bulls eye target on Representative Giffords, I say Fuck You Sarah and Fuck the Horse you rode into town on. Half baked, half educated, half governor of Alaska.

No bunch of thugs is going to take our democracy away from us like the Nazis took Germany in the thirties.

Vandalism, thuggery, bullying and the breaking of windows by in the middle of the night cowards says an awful lot about Roger Ailes cash cow audience at Fox “News”.

Follow-up on Malaysia Situation

This is follow-up to religionist tensions in Malaysia. I ran into an Associated Press article being run in the New York Times.

Malaysia Minorities Fear Islamization in Allah Row

The dispute has spawned attacks on 10 churches and has hardened a long-standing sense of alienation among the non-Muslim minority, threatening 40 years of ethnic peace and stability that underpins Malaysia's economic success.

Tensions rose further Thursday after lawyers representing Christians in their legal fight for the right to use ''Allah'' discovered their office had been ransacked and a laptop was missing. Also Thursday, a church in the southern state of Johor was found to have been vandalized with red paint…

The nation's current policies on race stem from violent riots in May 1969 in which Malays attacked the generally more prosperous Chinese. The government responded in part with an affirmative action program for Malays in jobs, housing and other areas. There are exclusive schools and colleges for Malays, while minorities fight for limited university places under the program.

I recommend you read the article to gain some insight into that present sitution.

In my opinon, I think the present breakdown in civility between cultural and religious parties in Malaysia has to do with three basic things.

One, is that the economy is bad. Marginal economic parties always lash out at what are perceived to be competing groups for jobs, food, shelter.

Two, the local Islamic culture of Asia is swept in the global awaking of Islam. This awakening is a two edged sword. The ugly edge part is international jihad in the form of a political movement called al-Qaeda. The other side of the sword is one of cultural awareness and bringing new meaning to an ancient belief system.

Third, when Malaysia formed in 1957 as a multi-cultural country, it along the timeline gave native Malays preferential treatment in education and government jobs and other things. The remaining minorities of Chinese and Hindu have had to go overseas for higher education feeling slighted in that area.

The bottom line is that the temporary vision, the pragmatic social contract of the making of a post-colonial modern Malay State is unraveling. Chinese, Hindu and the Indigenous populations wants more equality in Malay Society.

On the Indigenous side and in two provinces on the northern side of the Island of Borneo, five hundred miles from the Malay Peninsula, is where Christianity is taking hold. The RC church and it's request to legally use “Allah” as acceptable usage under Malay law for G-D in a local indigenous regional catholic newspaper is the tip of the iceberg - and what recently sparked ethnic religious hate crimes.

Part of the original social contract of 1957 makes it mandatory that all majority Malay citizens be Muslim without exception. If you become privileged in this social equation you give up freedom of religion which is perhaps an alien western to them concept but not unlike Medieval Europe where the Church was the only official religion in town.

Bridging the gap to a future global society means having to ask how to build that bridge in an acceptable fashion with sacred/secular fused, mixed and secular societies.

The Republic of Singapore had been briefly opted into the Malay state around 1963 and then opted out in 1965. From my own research I know that Singapore which has a majority population of Chinese ancestry people did not feel comfortable as part of the Malay nation equation.

I doubt that the Malay majority population will give up any constitutional privilege very easily. The future on Malaysia I think is that majority population not be introduced to the concept of religious freedom as much as allow freedom of thought and religion to be a factor in binding the nation up into a more civil, tolerant and better glued together society.

Dysfunctional Nature of American Culture

Going back to Franklin Graham’s photo-op trip to Russian Mission Alaska to “feed the poor”, I must say the then Gov. Palin’s remarks about Native American culture in Alaska were ignorant – they were not malicious – they were insular and insensitive. While many would try to make Sarah a monster, she is the typical stay at home mom type who has let her man rule the roost so to speak.

Running a cracker jack town like Wasilla was no doubt in the part time and President of the local PTA league of things. She was close to being a stay at home mom, refusing to stay at the Governor’s mansion in Juneau and commuting back and forth by plane to work. As such she becomes an icon or a hero to all those clinging to the once familiar dad works and mom stays at home to cook, clean and take care of the kids scenario.

Working moms as a large piece of the population has peaked during wars but the idea of two working parents became a necessity in the seventies with inflation making it impossible to live on one salary. Enough said on that.

I go back to a book on pop psychology “I’m Okay, You’re Okay” in the early seventies that said many things unpopular with the professional shrink community. I do not have an exact quote but I remember reading how a dysfunctional family might have its roots in events going back generations. When this book was written I don’t think that child abuse and such were even greatly talked about.

Using that pop psychology idea as a model I look at United States history differently. Outsiders see one United States. There are fifty states and maybe a dozen commonly functioning regions. The original idea of putting a name on a map, of dividing a land in a distant capital is part of the present day dysfunction of America in places.

One of the things on U.S. maps is how in a past function setting, mountains and rivers became logical lines on maps in that surveying was an impossible or costly matter.

In modern times you see a vibrant city like New York, Philadelphia or St. Louis and because of a waterway, a line on a map, the regional potential of these cities shifts in other directions. As a result you have Newark, Camden or East St. Louis disconnected from a sister city’s prosperity and progressive function. Some cities and areas of the U.S. do prosper in a regional functional setting. Each must be taken on a situation by situation basis.

The outsider if they see the United States they will say that the U.S. was spared the direct horrors of war and destruction in WWII. True. But if one looks at the history of the U.S. you begin to see hot spots where battles between states in the Civil War has left it mark on the psyche of a state or a region. In fact Americans in the Civil War were guinea pigs for European munitions’ manufacturers' observations and design. The horrors of WWI and its anti-human technology scales got its initial designs tested in the American Civil War.

What we may be seeing in these lean economic times are some dysfunctional aspects of America Culture that gets sidelined by mainstream historians in prosperous times but become blatantly evident now.

Since this is a blog and not a history book I will mention a few things I have observed of late about guns, race and religion.

One, that the obsession of guns with Americans may have started with the Indians. The original settlers from Europe pushed the native population further and further back not so much by killing the enemy so to speak, as much as over populating a region. The overflow of the European culture pushed the natives back who were not assimilated into the greater white culture.

With guns, Americans fought the British and threw them out. History will say that the loyalists or royalists went out on ships from New York city in 1781. No. Only the well to do or the lucky got shipped out. The rest lost their lands in the east coast and walked to Canada or walked out west. I cannot talk about Canadians here but I believe that paranoid obsessions of Americans in the present day has to do with Loyalists on the run and with only guns to protect themselves. What I see when I observe a fanatical NRA member is somebody still looking over their shoulders centuries after their ancestors lost in the Revolutionary war.

When Jackson made it official federal government policy to forcibly transport Indians out west, he did so with a racist bent. Jefferson wanted Indians to live in peaceful land ghettos (apartheid) trading with the white culture. Jackson saw Jefferson’s assimilation working too well in that assimilation meant racial mixing. What’s next after you have a sizable population of mixed Indians with Europeans? Next step is mixing with Africans which were slaves. America on all levels and in all regions of the country is still dealing with the side effects of the abolition of slavery one hundred and forty four years later.

Jackson’s idea to send Indians out west was obsolete from day one – the “Trail of Tears”, in hindsight, was unnecessary. The federal government did not get all the Indians in the east and shipping them out west would not solve anything with the railroad only a generation away from shrinking the world.

The same way that descendents of loyalists gone out west are looking over their shoulders, you have fundamentalists that are still locked mentally into 16th and 17th century European religious warfare. The push out west was in a way, in some cases, having one past disfunctionality overlapping with another. One of the things I see most in the hotspots of American fundamentalism are places with tons of violence associated with them in American history with territorial wars, the Indians, Civil War and land grabs.

Surely, the bible belt across the south is a place where Jesus is a code word for Robert E. Lee, the coming messiah, and such. The south along with the loyalists lost - and got lost - along the way in history.

Kansas and Oklahoma, diamonds on the fundamentalist tiara, have extreme histories of violence before, during and after the Civil War. And within the context of a population always moving on. In a way a lot of people in Oklahoma, were put there by Jackson and the invisible prison bars are still keeping them there.

Look at history differently. When I hear these hack southern politicians, GOP and blue dogs, their thinly veiled rhetoric is something out of Gone with the Wind – which of course is code talk for the good old days of majority white rule. Majority white rule is obsolete. It goes the way of all dysfunctional matters in the next few years.

The good future for all of us - will be for those of us who do not look back on the present dysfunctional state of the American Political, Economic and Belief establishments.
