The After Shocks of Benedict Sixteen's Papacy – Election of the Next Igor Clone as Pope

Pope Igor II (2013 -      )

There are turning points in the journey of life. I see this resignation of a power ranger, Benedict XVI, as just one after shock of Karol Wojtyla aka John Paul II. While the official view of JPII was one of media darling and or religious rock band like superstar, he was after all only a politician.

The office of pope and or bishop of Rome is a man-made position.  You just have to do some diligent and sincere research to find out that most of what exists today and aka as Christianity went through a Pagan filter and or sieve when Constantine followed through on Hadrian’s and many other Roman emperors' desire to have one homogenized Roman Religion to unite the Roman Empire over and above its roads, commerce and politics.

That much of what Catholicism is today is a surviving remnant of that Roman Pagan Religion thingy officially sanctioned by the Emperor/god Constantine the great.

Surprisingly, Catholicism did not die out with the Reformation.

Successful businesses have a tendency to continue to stay in motion with cash flow and then stop or die with extinct cash flow.

The Reformation in a small way resurrected something of the early Christian essence, pre-Constantine Catholic spin, in the form of some of the Protestant sects.

What Vatican II opened up in the way of a window was a thought or way of looking at what exactly Christianity was all about or could be. And maybe every region can its own traditions, can have a niche, but the overall product needs a unity to succeed. A unity yet to be invented by the many many sects of that old religion.

Getting back to the media superstar John Paul II, he was without a doubt the premier Cold War Warrior or so his publicist sold him as.  And he did use money funneled, Laundered through his church to fund internal dissent in his native Poland.

Problem is that no man can serve two masters.  Render unto Caesar and Render unto God. I think that men who have immense power get confused as to who or what their original mission statement in life was when they started out on their journey through life, before they hit lotto and got power, power, power.

While the Vatican has always been a political animal as much as a religious one over the centuries, John Paul II with his connections to the West and CIA etc. seemed to lock the water faucet on full with dollars and military and political decisions coming out of the stone talking Oracle at Delphi like mask of Christ, whoever or whatever he was two thousand years ago.

John Paul II and this faithful surviving servant Igor aka Benedict XVI burned out the religious motor of the Vatican religion thing and now the business of the Vatican is simply bu$ine$$ no matter what the press releases claim or say.

In a way too, Reagan merged conservative politics with conservative fundamentalism religion and the resulting GOP mess is neither political nor religious but something nobody can or wants to use in the modern global culture based on the sacred high technology of the moment.

No matter what clone a bunch of John Paul II or Benedict XVI appointed stooge bishops/cardinals elect as the next pope, he will not have any real agenda to fall back on except the present existing Bu$ine$$ Model.

As such, below is a except from a writer Garry Wills, on the Colbert Show acting as a person, one of the people of God, the Church, that does not need a Vatican or a priest to commune with the divine.

The soul and spirit of Vatican II lives on!

Whatever.

The Secret of Fatima - The End of the Papacy?

I remember this thing from first grade in 1958 and it was related to the apparition of Mary at Fatima. The thing of course was the secret letter containing prophecy and to be opened in 1960. Suspense, mystery and absoluteness were hallmarks of this then urban legend.

The legend no doubt twittered out from the convent of Lucia who wrote down these memories twenty five years after their happening. Twenty five years can change a bit of context or connotation. The four gospels were in general consensus written forty to sixty years after the death of Jesus. Of course Sister Lucia’s memory and voice were of one person and not many.

I have read this so-called third letter and released from the Vatican that got spun in different ways. Before I comment, here is the text of that so-called third “secret” prophecy:

"I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.

"After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."

No doubt Pius XII read this letter in private. He may have shit himself if he read it in early 1944 with the Nazi army camped outside the gates of the Vatican. He probably put it away to 1960 as recommended by Sister Lucia when it was supposed to be clearer in its meaning.

John XXIII became pope in 1958 and called for a Council within three months of his taking office, in early 1959. I think he read that “secret” letter and it may have helped in his decision to call a Council.

The difficult part of any “prophecy” is in who interprets and or who understands the prophecy.

Cardinal Ratzinger, as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith, is one of a handful of people, mostly popes, who had access and read this message of Mary in Fatima before its official release in 2000.

The fringe conspiracy types put a blanket of doubt over the full disclosure by Ratzinger and or the Vatican in that this is a vision interpreted by Lucia and there are no words and or message in this third part of a whole message package.

John Paul the Great, superstar of the Vatican, took this vision to mean that he was the Bishop in White and that instead of being killed, he was saved from death by the divine intervention of Our Lady of Fatima. He was shot in 1981 in St. Peter’s Square and survived on the feast of that Lady of Fatima. Indeed, the big “M” on his coat of arms stood for Mary. He felt that his survival after Fatima Day was more than a coincidence but divine. He was strongly into the Mary cult wing of the RC church which has a tendency to be medieval or “traditional” on its religious perception of the church’s mission.

John Paul II takes the prophecy or vision of Sister Lucia literally. As a playboy superstar who was privately criticized for spending more time on planning with worldwide rockstar tours than spending time on the nitty gritty of politics and bureaucracy at the Vatican, John Paul thought it was “all about me” in the opinion of some who worked with him.

The one man who Pope Rockstar could always turn to in the nitty gritty bureaucrat role was Joseph Ratzinger, the present pope. Appointed as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith – formerly known was the Holy Office of the Inquisition - in 1981, Ratzinger was the hard nosed bureaucrat you came up against if you did not follow the party line in your role of layman, nun, priest or bishop.

Joe was John Paul’s bad cop in the good cop/bad cop routine of John Paul raking in the glory and PR success. Now in retrospect, perhaps the historic case or label might be good pope/bad pope in the scheme of things.

This past duty roster and his twenty four year methodology of being a power behind the throne until he himself is now in the superstar spotlight (a hard to follow act of that of JPII) perhaps first and foremost this past is the greatest obstacle to Benedict XVI’s public interface and the public’s perception of him as Bishop of Rome. That and Benedict’s perhaps personal and private thought that anybody can be a rockstar. Yeah right.

John Paul II had the same medieval, backward looking, not friendly user attitude toward the laity that Benedict XVI is now being trashed for. John Paul II could get away with it. John Paul II, if you read current history books, single handedly brought down the evil Soviet Empire. The west, masters of the liberal media, and pro-western, anti-Soviet propaganda, makes John Paul some sort of Nietzsche religious superman if such a combination could possibly occur.

In fact, I think that in fifty years, I believe that historians if they are able to be honest will paint the source of the present crumbling western culture on three people. They will be Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and John Paul II. Not a true axis of evil so to speak but maybe a goofy “Gang of Three” who set the western civilization down a wrong road toward Global fascism and away from human liberation and freedom – a secular real time salvation.

Right now my personal advice to Benedict XVI is to stop trying to be a rockstar. Tear down the Rockstar Audience Theatre and go back to being a Pope in a photograph on the wall or a holy card in the missal of all good and faithful Catholics. Keep your mouth shut or at least have twenty bureaucrats review your remarks before releasing them to the public

Getting back to Sister’s Lucia’s prophecy/vision – John XXIII understood the meaning of the letter of Fatima all too well. Pope John understood the vision on a symbolic level while John Paul took it on a literal level.

On a symbolic level, if the White Bishop is the all too powerful head of a Catholics only Church, then the organization will die if the Papacy dies or is prevented from acting in an actual political or religious sense. The death of the RC church drags her sister churches down as well with her. The whole world becomes a truly darker place then. This is not unlike the so-called prophecy of the now defunct sister churches in Asia Minor in the Book of Revelation – a book, as prophecy, that I personally do not subscribe to.

The pope and or the Vatican is not the Church. The Church is not buildings – it is people – it is the People of God.

Fifty years from now I can picture not a dead Christian Church but a living, thriving, growing institution on all continents and being the Anglican, Lutheran, Roman, Orthodox Church for want of a better term for a United Christianity that I think is the Great (unrecognized) Legacy of John XXIII and the Second Vatican Council.

Fr. Simon Henry of Farington UK Rants About Those Catholics that are Ruining His Church and Therefore Don’t Belong in His Church

The true “enemy within” are those modernist Vatican 2-ers and not the Dinosaur turd Trenters. Yeah right. More like civil war between factions and not schism or heresy.

There is an "anti-Church" within the Church labouring in parishes, deaneries and curial offices in complete opposition to Pope Benedict's teaching that the the Second Vatican Council should be interpreted in a hermeneutic of continuity, such as this unreliable and impossible to substantiate tosh in last week's Tablet, where the writer more or less says the Vatican II did what Jesus wanted but Trent didn't.
This anti-Church seems to have existed in hidden form underground for many decades but grasped the Second Vatican Council to come out into the open and now openly preaches in opposition to the public teaching of the Magisterium of the Church.  The parish priest leaning on the lectern at Mass, without wearing a chasuble, telling people that women should be ordained, or the parish priest inviting people to general absolution, is not an outlandish caricature but a daily reality.
This third column, which I've experienced many times, is full of clergy who appear to hate the Church as it has manifested itself for hundreds of years, certainly hate the Pope, hate Rome and hate the Tradition which has been the vehicle of transmitting the Faith and the Scriptures down the generations.  If you hate a club  and everything it stands for, why join it, why stay in it? Why not go off and start  a club of your own or join one that is in harmony with your opinions (there are plenty of them)?
Why do these people insist on trying to turn the Church into another version of all those Reformation breakaways?  All the things they want - no Pope, no Tradition, no authority, lay-led services, women priests and free-style dancing, elected elders and doctrine by popular vote - are available in the many denominations that abound throughout the world.  But no - they must stay here and work to change The Church from within for reasons that I cannot fathom.

Papal Tiara of Paul VI – the Last Italian Pope *

Like everything else in a changing world, the objects that once displayed power and might are now doorstops in our temporary trash recycle culture.
One such object is the Last Tiara, of the centuries old symbol of Roman usurpation of power, in the form of the triple crown of popes.  The above Tiara was used to crown Pope Paul VI in 1963.
Paul VI was the last Italian pope *, discounting of course the very short 33 day reign ended by the murder of John Paul I by Bankers and Mafia Dons, banking customers?, not satisfied with the Vatican’s banking services etc. Couldn’t they just return the toaster to the bank and close their accounts? Geez.
Well anyway, the crown is currently in the Pilgrimage Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC.
I saw this object when it was doing a national tour for charity in the late sixties. Paul VI gave up his crown to feed the poor.  What sick twisted logic and thinking back then in the church during and after Vatican II.  Mama mia.
I saw the object in the lobby of a bank in downtown Philly at the SW corner of Broad and Chestnut Streets, the Wall Street type financial center of Philly in its day.
I see on Google Maps that that bank lobby is now selling music DVDs and Video Games and across the street the one time main branch of the Girard Trust Company, a marble replica of the Pantheon in Rome, which is now a mere entrance way and lobby of a five star hotel.  Talk about the current disposable trash culture.  Must be getting old or something.
When I saw Paul VI’s tiara I was young and still a catholic.  I took some photos and showed them to my uber-Catholic aunts and uncles and their response was something I will always remember. That as Irish Catholics there was a pope, in a holy card, but I-talians, on a personal level and personal prejudice level, were another matter altogether.  Whatever.
With the arrival of the Global Media Rock Star Pope John Paul II and his private political agenda in Poland and his “reform of the reform”, turning back the clock to the middle ages to forget Vatican II, this last crown of the last Italian pope is no doubt just another cash cow relic to fleece the pilgrims in the Washington shrine.  Vials of the real Blood of Christ relics down the next aisle for your shopping consumerism pleasure. LOL
The crown BTW sat on the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome during the last sessions of Vatican II during the early reign of Paul VI.  No doubt besides relic status, the papal tiara has trophy status of sorts to the Neocons, Satanists, Masons, Bankers now in control of the Roman Catholic Church in Rome.
Have a nice day.

Vatican II Now a Code Word for Heresy and Heterosexuality Amongst Catholic Bishops?

I know this sounds bizarre but a light bulb went on regarding the Prince Bishop of New York City Cardinal Timothy Dolan sticking his nose up the ass, into the affairs of the Irish Seminary in Rome, on behalf of Benedict the German, Bishop of Rome.

Dolan is pulling a Bill Morris or a Charlie Chaput style hatchet job on the Irish Seminary staff that seems too V2 to the Vatican in their ways.

Of course all this happened over a year ago and the results are only now coming to the forefront and insult of the nation of Ireland as retaliation of the Vatican to not only the politicians of Ireland that want the Child Abuse swept out to sea in the Irish Catholic Church and her institutions but to the people of Ireland, the lay people, the victims of sexual abuse by the RCC and its celibate clergy.

The light bulb had to do with the former flaming Queen, Princess Bishop of New York, Cardinal Spellman and his “Vatican II will get no further than the Statue of Liberty” in his gay bishop’s balliwick where promotions to monsignor in NYC rested solely on a priest’s height and good looks. (yum yum)  LMAO

Timmy Dolan technically should not have gotten his red hat last year because the previous Prince Bishop of New York, Edward Egan, had not reached the age of 80 and ineligibility in Papal Election voting. No problem, the more the merrier, birds of a feather and all that. Early reward for a drunk Mick to garrote his own kind. How so very WWII and German.

The problem with the Irish Seminary and the staff of long standing that are being thrown into the very dirty corrupt streets of Rome is that usually the charges against the accused always flows back to charges related to humanity or the laity or the heresy preached by Vatican II.

The heresy of Vatican II is not really heresy but the only way the closeted gay bishops can steal the RCC out from under the People of God or the real church so sullenly trod into the dirt lately by the likes of Bertone, Ratzinger, Chaput, Lori and laughing cow Timmy the "Mick" Dolan.

I guess when female ordination is mentioned as in the case of the late deposed Bishop of Toowoomba Australia, William Morris, anything Vatican II or anything on the heterosexual line of thought, females that is, is anathema to the HE-MAN Women Haters Boys Only Club of the USCCB, United States Catholic Conference of Bishops and the boys in Rome and the Vatican.  Whatever.

That being a real celibate is not being kind in thoughts to women or gays but a real celibate must install fellow closeted gays in positions of "Celibate" power into order to loot the Church.

The Holy Spirit watches and waits to strike down this evil dressed in purple and red and white.

The Great Heretic - John Paul II - the anti-People of God - CIA/KGB Pope

The Great Helmsman contemplates chemical formulas.

The Great Heretic and or the Great Hypocrite?  A man of great personal ambition, not faith, and the Poles want to make him a saint.  Polish joke somewhere in there.

One has to remember the Rockstar with his fawning masses of media groupies all trying to photograph him and write stories of the Great Helmsman steering a PC course against the Evil Soviet Union in that insane invented neo-con era of the “cold war”.

But what the majority of the People of God, the Church sees now is a neo-con seizure of that present Church of theology and assets and in direct reversal of Vatican II in General Wojtyla's “Reform of the Reform” and the present retreat into Medievalism under JPII and his fellow, former Nazi sympathizer successor Benedict XVI.

In the matter of the KGB assassination attempt on JPII because of his full swing and cooperation with the West and the CIA war on Moscow, his place in history is held together with paper, glue and Public Relations pubic hair. Nobody got a promotion to Bishop in cold war Poland without cooperating with the KGB - a fact of life. That and the present junta in power in Vatican City, stabbing all good men and women of faith in the back, as the last of the Vatican gold is shipped to Beijing for investment in Chinese slave factories.

The current Vatican meltdown has Secretary of State Bertone doing all in his power to rig the next papal election with the elevation of many to cardinal status, bought votes similar to those of mediocre cookie cutter minded stooges like American Cardinals Dolan and Burke, for a hand selected Neo-Con successor in the very near future.

One seems to forget John Paul’s invitation to Britain at the behest of the fascist minded Margaret Thatcher Government in May 1982 only to have John Paul II fly over to the fascist Junta in Argentina to give succor to fellow fascists and pretend to be a peace maker in the Falklands War.

I am reminded on how what a total creep and massive personal friend John Paul II was of the Pedophile King Father Marcial Maciel of the Legion of Christ anti-human cult within the RCC sect of Christianity.  The Pedophile King could not be $topped by John Paul II, would not be stopped when the bottom line spreadsheet had impressive  numbers of seminarians in makeshift seminaries in the third world filling up with the poor looking for lifetime meal ticket “celibate” employment (quantity, not quality). This meant more for personal power and prestige than that of the true Spirit of the Church.

Pedophile King Marcial Maciel and King of the Vatican JPII

WHEN POPE JOHN PAUL II died in April 2005, historian William M. Johnston used the term "Kafkaesque" to describe the flavour of the pontificate that had just ended. He argued that the late pope had governed the Catholic Church using Soviet-style techniques. Just as the comparatively small group of Communist Party loyalists had supervised, controlled and intimidated the wider Soviet bureaucracy, so too the Vatican curia in Rome had supervised, controlled and intimidated theologians and bishops in their dioceses around the world. And, said Johnston, this enforced conformity to the party line got tighter as you moved further up in the hierarchy, though it gradually loosened lower down. The result was a system in which priests and nuns were often very outspoken, but bishops were forced to remain silent. …An outback bishop who gets around in an ordinary suit and tie rather than a clerical collar and episcopal purple, Bill Morris, 68, comes across as modest, thoughtful, decent and practical. At one time he was secretary to former Archbishop of Brisbane, Frank Rush, and later parish priest of the Gold Coast, before being appointed Bishop of Toowoomba in 1993. His dismissal for "defective pastoral leadership" is an irony given his reputation as one of the most pastoral-minded of all the Australian bishops. To offer a single example, in 2009 he sacked the principal of a Toowoomba Catholic primary school and two Catholic Education officials for failing to report to the police an early complaint from one of 13 schoolgirls aged 9 and 10 who were sexually abused by a teacher. The teacher was later sentenced to 10 years in jail.

That the bottom line for the sacking of Bishop Bill Morris of Toowoomba in Australia was his willingness to hand over a sex abuse case involving a Catholic school teacher over to the cops. Something no American bishop and any RC bishop worldwide seems capable of doing.

That if anything is evident in the present Vatileaks scandal of the Ratzinger/Bertone Regime is that money, greed, embezzlement, bribery, blackmail and oral and anal sex among celibate seminarians, priests and bishops is the only way to get a head in the Vatican Whore House of politics. It is not what you know - it is who you blow - it would seem to be in papal politics these days

And John Paul II paved that way for power over love in the RCC of today. Thanks to the Great Heretic.

Sad. Truly truly sad to witness.

Pope John Paul I – the last pope – the smiling pope

I was struck by some comment in some blog or in a “progressive” Catholic Newspaper that allows polite dissenting opinion/comments.  In that Newspaper, the response was somehow related in the mind of the commentor to the current Public Relations crisis, not a MORAL crisis, in the American Catholic Church over one of their masonic like, magically politically like, connected bishops, Robert Finn KC/MO stonewalling the public over his criminal mishandling of a typical pedo priest cover up in the Diocese of Kansa City / St. Joseph Missouri.

The comment was from a female, and she said something to the effect that all the good will and hope and good Christian Catholic vibes that had come out of V2, Vatican II, had died with Albino Luciani and his “murder”, which seems to be a match for the popular meme opinion on the way the Vatican II spirit somehow got hijacked along the timeline thing and got tossed off a cliff.

And of course, the murder thing is retro-active revisionism, reflective of Coppola’s Godfather III, similar in fact to how all outer space aliens began to look like what I believe are called the “Greys”, after Spielberg’s landmark flick “First Encounter of the Third Kind”.

While there was a lot of behind the scenes skullduggery going on in the background of John Paul I’s short reign, I feel certain he knew little to nothing about the political forces, Propaganda Due (P2) masonic lodges, and economic forces, Banco Ambrosiano, in which the Vatican was a large shareholder.  I doubt Luciani would have touched the arrangements that Banco Ambrosiano had to launder money for the CIA to the Contras and elsewhere in U.S.’s global eternal cold war against the Soviets.  The church and the U.S.A. had a shared enemy, the U.S.S.R..

The contamination of church by the state, virtually little or no separation of it in Italy, began on the political end of it, by young Turks all joining in secret Masonic orders, in the Cold War, to protect the status quo in Italy.  This all no doubt made its way, in a social manner, to zealous seminarians and priests, now senior Vatican officials and bishops worldwide – which is another matter I think but not unrelated to the present Public Relations crisis in the RC church.   All going on in the background noise of John Paul I’s very short reign of 33 days.    Sometimes a heart attack is just a heart attack.

And considering who the next pope was and how a Polish American PAC of sorts helped him to get elected with lots of American funds –

and how Polish Bishop/General Karol WojtyÅ‚a (VoyTeeWa) made all the right moves against the Soviet Union (as proxy?), and at the same time hid all the religious changes behind his vision, his march back to the middle ages that Benedict XVI so gleefully agrees with, continues with, I have to think that Albino Luciani, Pope John Paul I, was the last pope before this modern Cult of Personality in the Vatican started under media “Rock Star” John Paul II.

That modern media Rock Star Cult of Papal Authority, of noise, of news sound bites, started in the Cold War which  seems to matter more to JPII’s appointed  lieutenants and Benedict’s too, bishops with whom no common sense, human rights, human decency or human warmth matter.  News at 11.

Who is this Jesus character anyway?  Who does he work for these days?  (Wink. Nod)

Unemployed?  His own fault!

A bum?

George Pell Defends John Paul II’s Corruption - Australia

I heard about this 95 Theses quality document mentioned in an Easter condemnation of it by the neo-conic, defense of priest pedophiles at any cost ($), George Cardinal Pell of Sydney Australia.

Consider a full read of this historic document.

The People of God, retake your church from the abomination currently in charge of your hierarchy before it is too late.

“…Power corrupts. The history of the papacy shows this pre-eminently. Unchecked potentates believe their own propaganda. Taken to the extreme, they claim infallibility. Pius IX bullied Vatican I into institutionalizing such a claim. Since then creeping infallibility has resulted in the pope and his theologically limited curia stealing the term “magisterium” from its real owners – the college of professional theologians. How can you conscientiously give assent of mind and heart to policies formed without theological debate, consultation, transparency or accountability? In contemporary government and business this would be judged unethical.

“ John Paul’s lust for power showed very early and was taken to monumental proportions. Accountable to nobody, John Paul moved against any opinion other than his own and removed many exponents of alternative opinions from teaching and publishing. His most powerful enforcer was the Ratzinger-led Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). Other Roman dicasteries joined the campaign.

“The CDF is the current euphemism for the Inquisition. True to its mediaeval roots, it assumes the pope to be entitled to enforce his views. It conducts its delations and proceedings in secret. In today’s secular world this is a violation of human rights. …

“All of us are abused by this process. The priest at the coal face is not consulted, yet is contemptuously expected to defend policies he and his people do not believe.

“John Paul II also enforced much of his own devotional life on the church at large. Despite Vatican II he effectively stopped the third rite of Penance, reversed a burgeoning dynamic theology of Eucharist by reverting to and re-emphasising devotion to the static Real Presence, reinforced a distorted devotion to Mary based on fundamentalist theology and introduced peculiar devotions such as Sr. Faustina’s Divine Mercy Devotion which undercuts Easter – the climax of our liturgical year.

“A more grievous abuse of power by John Paul II was his appointment of bishops. Appointees were to be clerical, compliant and in total agreement with his personal opinions. This has emasculated the leadership of the Church. The episcopal ranks are now low on creativity, leadership, education and even intelligence. Many are from the ranks of Opus Dei – reactionary, authoritarian and decidedly not creative….

“A newly critical laity questions policy but receives no answers. Why can’t women be leaders in the Church? Why do priests have to be celibate? What is wrong with contraception? Why alienate remarried divorcees? Why this salacious preoccupation with sexual mores? Why are scientific advances always suspected of being bad? Why can’t we recognise the reality of homosexual orientation – and the social consequences of that recognition? Have we learnt nothing from the Galileo case – or the treatment of Teilhard de Chardin? Can’t we escape the Syllabus of Errors mentality?

“Benedict XVI has continued the reversal of Vatican II. He is imposing a new English translation of the Sacramentary on a resisting English speaking constituency. This may very well backfire because many priests are not going to implement it. Benedict has received back bishops from the schismatic Society of St Pius X. He has encouraged the Tridentine Mass in Latin. He has reintroduced kneeling for communion on the tongue at his public Masses – all deliberate key pointers to regression from the spirit of Vatican II. To the priests who embraced Vatican II they are iconic insults….”

This past duty roster and his twenty four year methodology in being a power until himself is perhaps first and foremost the greatest obstacle to Benedict XVI’s public interface and the public’s perception of him as Bishop of Rome. That and Benedict’s personal thought that anybody can be a rockstar.

Father Peter Kennedy - Heretic or Saint?

There seems to be some sort of rowl in Brisbane whereby a popular priest Father Peter Kennedy has taken the good news of Vatican II and created a dynamic, charismatic RC church full of living, breathing Catholics full again of blood and spirit.

Kennedy was removed by the Archbishop on complaints of letters sent to the Vatican complaining that a statue of Buddha was seen on the St Mary parish church grounds in Brisbane.

Buddhism is not incompatible with Jesus and his common man’s message. Buddha in most sects is just an enabler to the awakening of the spirit within which is not necessarily synonymous with soul.

Apparently the Parish church which can get over a thousand people in attendance at mass is deemed a great threat to the Church Hierarchy. Cynical me bets that they want to sell the valuable land beneath St Mary’s and or get rid of Vatican II loving priests and Laity.

Enthusiasm is a dangerous thing. I cannot get an accurate picture to see if Father Kennedy is a con artist of sorts, or worse a Protestant lover, who takes poetic license during the Mass to express the Trinity as Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer instead of Father, Son, Holy Ghost.

This all started a couple weeks ago and I do not see much more news on the matter from down under.

There seems a news blackout has occurred, but it is Australia, with little news about this standoff between the people of St. Mary’s and the cookie cutter hierarchy wanting to stamp this sort of thing out and probably with a tridentine Latin mass.

Why doesn’t the Vatican do like the Church of England or some Lutheran sects and have a high Latin church with rituals and a low church full of Gospel, prayer and spirit.

Stop gleefully sending people out the door to other sects, different religions or no religion at all!!!

Vatican to excommunicate South Brisbane priest Father Peter Kennedy

The death knell was sounded for Father Kennedy in August, when Archbishop Bathersby warned St Mary's to toe the Vatican line or close. He told Father Kennedy, who has presided for 28 years over the 800-member church community, that St Mary's was operating outside practices and policies of the Catholic Church.

He cited a number of issues including allegedly unorthodox Masses being practiced and the hierarchical authority of the church not being respected.

The Archbishop's intervention was sparked by complaints to the Vatican by a parishioner who, among other issues, complained about a Buddhist statue in the church.

In a letter in November responding to Archbishop Bathersby's charges, Father Kennedy and members of the congregation denied they were out-of-step with the Church and Rome.

After a further letter from the Archbishop to the priest in December, the St Mary's community has been awaiting the primate's final decision.

This week the Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, gave his tacit blessing for the possible excommunication of Father Kennedy.

The Vatican is a place for some. For others Vatican II is spirit, the Spirit, and ideal of Christ’s message lifting itself out of a feudalism mindset.

Pieces of Dreams - Revisited

There is this movie Pieces of Dreams 1970 with Robert Forster. He plays a young priest who falls in love with Lauren Hutton. The movie is based on the book “The Wine and the Music” by William E Barrett who also wrote “Lilies of the Field” and the “Left Hand of God”.

The title of the movie shares the title of a Michel Legrand song “Pieces of Dreams” sung at the end of the film by the legendary Miss Peggy Lee. I never could find this song listed on any of Peggy’s records. It was I believe the best sung version ever of what is now considered a Michel Legrand classic. The next best singer on the planet for this song is Shirley Bassey.

Anyway, it was a small budget production and it did not have a lot of Hollywood polish. A lot of shots on location in New Mexico gave it a feeling which was not the standard Hollywood product in 1970. It is a good average watchable flick which I guess in today's terms you could say has what is called an independent production feeling to it in terms of originality and quality.

Forgive my Critique. These days everybody is a pundit or a critic. Perhaps it a substitute for a two way conversation on the Internet. I believe it did not have a large budget because in those days Hollywood never spent a lot on so called controversial films which in 1970 this film might have been categorized. Hollywood in its prime never made controversial movies though it did touch upon controversial subjects like Anti-Semitism as in Gentleman’s Agreement with Gregory Peck in 1947.

Hollywood made these much older limited audience appeal movies in black and white instead of color not expecting much of a return on investment.

There is a lot of soul searching in “Pieces of Dreams” by the main character Father Gergory Lind about what he wants, to be a servant of God or get laid etc.

In the framework of the time, Father Gregory Lind did not have many options. Many European priests would have just had Lauren Hutton on the side as a mistress and continued to give outward lip service to God and the Church.

This film touches in me some of the raw nerves that Vatican II left behind by ripping the scab off the Medieval Catholic church and shoving the wound briefly, very briefly, into the cleansing light of day.

There is a scene whereby Gregory visits his local bishop to be allowed to be released from his vows. The Bishop played beautifully by the veteran actor Will Geer appeals to Father Gregory Lind and says something, things like celibacy would change in time. I think back to that scene probably filmed forty years ago and the Vatican has still not delivered on changes that the laity would feel comfortable with like married priests.

The reason I remember these lines is because in the raw period after Vatican II when priests and nuns jumped ship in droves and the laity were still a little shell shocked, most of us accepted the concept that change in the Church was a good thing.

There was an unstated and undelivered promise about the celibacy thing to the laity back then - first the English Mass, then we will talk about other subjects. Back then nobody even thought of women as priests. Add that to a lot of items the laity thought were coming down the pike for putting up with John XXIII's opening up the windows and throwing the filled to the brim chamber pots of the Pius X Medievalists out the window. To this day the emergency group therapy sessions in the Vatican are about - No there were no babies thrown out - only chamber pots during Vatiican II.

Well anyway, the quid pro quo of the laity putting up with change and looking for a brighter church never happened. They are selling churches out from under the feet of the people of God these days.

I think that the lines of the lyrics of the song Pieces of Dreams best fit the conundrum of a church in search of a mission or a soul since Vatican II.

Little boy lost
In search of little boy found
You go a wondering,
wandering,
stumbling, tumbling
'Round... 'round...
When will you find
What's on the tip of your mind
Why are you blind
To all you ever would
Never would
Really are
Nearly are
Little boy false
In search of little boy true
Will you be ever done
Traveling
Always unraveling
You ... you
Running away
Could lead you farther astray
And as for fishing in streams
For pieces of dreams
Those pieces will never fit
What is the sense of it
Little boy blue
Don't let your
little sheep roam
It's time come blow your horn
Meet the morn
Look and see
Can you be
Far from home?

P.S. Lauren Hutton was hot back then. She still is!
