Bishop Mitt Romney and the Unmarried Mother

Now that the secret stockholders at the Fed have decided that Mitt Romney will be Presidential nominee of the Republican wing of the Property Party, let me put some spin on Mitt's religious/management role of Bishop in the Church of JC/LDS.

I am quessing that the title of bishop in the LDS church is like a district manager in a business or church elder in other "Christian" sect congregations.  So before this gets out of control, Mitt's story is starting to get mentioned and like so many things Plastic Mitt has fucked up so far in the PR/humanity department thus far, I think he probably did the right thing in pushing an unmarried mother toward the adoption thing.

Embrace the story. Don't deny it. Deal with it.  Stand by it.  Move on with political thing.

Though the ultimate choice of such a thing should be up to the woman, the LDS setup and their internal system of self help, charity, would see an unmarried woman with a child as a potential burden on the community.

On one hand Romney’s time spent as a minister of his faith gave him the unique opportunity of serving low-income Boston neighborhoods, undercutting the narrative that he’s an out-of-touch millionaire. On the other, his role as a representative of the church sometimes put him in a position of standing up for politically unsavory teachings. 

Peggie Hayes had converted to Mormonism as a teenage along with her family, and told the book’s authors, Boston Globe reporters Michael Kranish and Scott Helman, that for a long time she found comfort in the faith’s teachings. After returning to the congregation as a 23-year-old divorced single mother, she soon got pregnant with a second child. Knowing she was in need of financial assistance, the Romneys arranged for her to do odd jobs for members of the congregation. 

My real gripe with all this is the title bishop.  Once I hear that word as an ex-Catholic, I can't get over the image of bishops who secretly approve and also cover up the buggery thing.

Problem with invented religions like LDS is use of adopted cover words like bishop, that sounded so legitimate a century or two ago.  These days the thought of a bishop running for president conjures up the words theocracy, inquisition, lack of freedom, lack of freedom of choice, forbidden pursuit of happiness etc.

Prince Willard, aka “Mitt”, Romney of the Mormon Church protested the Vietnam War Protesters at Stanford in 1966.  With his education drafts deferments to protect him from mortal combat, he as a Mormon Missionary, was also granted automatic entitlement to a religious draft deferment following college.

He and his fellow Mormons, being “religious” types, did not seem to carry their fair share of the water in Vietnam.  But they sure supported the War.  Sunshine Patriots.

The exemption for Mormon missionaries created controversy at the time. Non-Mormons in Utah filed a lawsuit against the federal government in 1968. The suit was still in court two years later, at a time when "the church and the Selective Service System work hand-in-hand in deferring the missionaries," according to an article from the period published by The New York Times.

Richard Leedy, the lawyer who brought the suit, said in a telephone interview that he did so because "the substantial number of deferments to missionaries made the likelihood of us non-Mormons going to Vietnam a lot more likely."

Wouldn’t it be great if a Republican presidential candidate could just buy the support of just about every major conservative talk show host in America?  Well, it may not be as far-fetched as you may think.  Clear Channel owns more radio stations (850) than anyone else in the United States.  They also own Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates the radio shows of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, among others.  Needless to say, Clear Channel basically owns conservative talk radio in the United States.  So who owns Clear Channel?  Well, it turns out that Bain Capital is one of the primary owners of Clear Channel.  Yes, you read that correctly.  The company that Mitt Romney ran for so long is one of the “big bosses” over virtually all conservative talk radio in America.  Of course Mitt Romney is not running Bain Capital anymore.  He is a “retired partner”, but he still has a huge financial stake in Bain Capital.  We’re talking about millions upon millions of dollars.  If you doubt this, just check out page 34 of this public financial disclosure report.  So if you have been wondering why so many conservative talk show hosts are being so incredibly kind to Mitt Romney, this just might be the answer…

I am told and I am witnessing the fact that my old label “This Cultural Christian” does not market well.  People under 40 are turned off by all things labeled “Christian” these days.

The Christian Brand has lost most of its luster. 

Rather than turn off potential readers I am going for the mystery of “X”.  My descriptive is above.  I state what I am.  I am an agnostic, areligionist, X-tian.

Please do not confuse me with that knuckle dragging Christian Political Party Shit. (GOP)

It has been a forty year process to officially merge the Republicans with all things hypocritical and hiding under the label “Christian”.

Jesus is one thing.  I like Jesus.

I believe in G*d.  Not madison avenue toothpaste sold as G*d.

 

But this Christ cult thing worshiping Constantine’s army god is not what I believe in.

I think my turning point came this week when the Pagan majority Supreme Court said it was okay to hate blacks and gays and women and others, especially the disabled as in this particular court case, if you are a tax free church and you don’t want to hire them or you just want to fire ‘em.

I have some hope for some of those mainstream “Christians” that still operate in intelligence like the Lutheran, Anglicans etc.  Some – not much.

Christianity is a dying religion.  It is perhaps already a corpse in some places (like Italy) and merely being propped up by some dusty empty buildings.

But the ignorant Pagans, Roman Church and the Literalists, Fundamentalists, those who worship the words in a book and do not know how to think or consider those words, well, what the world sees is the insane American Government as it stands to the nations, a “Christian” country. It is of late just a waste of any real people’s time, the Christian part that is, to that world.

I want my America.  I want my country back from these religious fanatics and Christians.

But the court’s unanimous decision in a case from Michigan did not specify the distinction between a secular employee, who can take advantage of the government’s protection from discrimination and retaliation, and a religious employee, who can’t.

It was, nevertheless, the first time the high court has acknowledged the existence of a “ministerial exception” to anti-discrimination laws — a doctrine developed in lower court rulings. This doctrine says the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of religion shields churches and their operations from the reach of such protective laws when the issue involves employees of these institutions.

The case came before the court because the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued the Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School of Redford on behalf of employee Cheryl Perich, over her firing, which happened after she complained of discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

All the suicide victims at Foxconn’s two Shenzhen factories have been migrant workers in the 17-25 age group. One obvious factor is overwork – employees are forced to work double or triple the legal limit on overtime on a regular basis, according to independent surveys. While the maximum legal amount of overtime is 36 hours per month in China, researchers report that 80 to 100 hours of overtime is normal at Foxconn. Other violations of China’s labour laws are legion, according to interviews with employees and ex-employees.  

Another factor is systematic repression. The company prefers to employ ex-army officers from Taiwan as line supervisors. Militarisation of the production process is a feature of the ‘Foxconn model’. Nearly 28 percent of workers have been verbally insulted by supervisors or security personnel, and 16 percent have suffered physical abuse, according to a 83-page dossier on Foxconn produced jointly by 20 Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese universities last October. 

“Workers aren’t allowed to talk, smile, sit down, walk around or move unnecessarily during their long working hours, which require them to finish 20,000 products every day,” the report states. More than one in eight employees interviewed for the report said they had passed out on the assembly line due to the high pressure and long working hours. One in four women workers said they suffered menstrual disorders due to overwork.

Ex-Bishop Gabino Zavala of Los Angeles could not afford to support a wife and kids as a priest.  He apparently had to wait until 1994 when they made him an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, home of $660 million dollar child abuse settlements and $200 million dollar cathedrals with underground parking and mausoleums. 

Life in La La Land.  Only in America.

Gabino had to wait until 1994 in order to support a mistress and two teenage kids on a Bishop’s salary.  Archbishop Tim Dolan of New York makes $29,000 per year.  The L.A. archdiocese has emphasized that church funds were not involved in this bishop constantly commuting to his out of state family.  Boy, those airline mileage points really add up. Don't they? 

Could he secretly have been married in Las Vegas? What happens there, stays there?

No sweat.  Zavala can now openly marry, convert to the Episcopalians and rejoin the Roman Catholic Priesthood as a renegade Anglican and still be married.  B16’s raid on the Anglicans is just so Christian etc.

What’s going on between Keith Olbermann and Current TV?

Olbermann is not covering the Iowa caucus Tuesday night -- and it doesn't look like the decision was his alone.

Earlier Tuesday, Olbermann indicated that his show "Countdown" was returning, but by 7 p.m. ET, he said it was not to be.

“So as not to mislead: I am informed Countdown will not be on tonight," Olbermann tweeted. "I must defer on all questions to @JoelHyatt @AlGore and @Current.”

Instead, Gore is on air alongside his two other prime time hosts, Cenk Uygur and Jennifer Granholm. Current's Chief News Officer and on-air visage is MIA.

These mixed signals come amid reports of tension between Olbermann, who has fought his way off networks before, and Current.

As the New York Times’ Brian Stelter wrote last Thursday, Olbermann's involvement in the election so far – or lack thereof – is puzzling. He did not appear in a pair of special reports that followed GOP candidate debates.

“These absences suggest that there may be new tension between Mr. Olbermann and the managers at Current, who are trying to create a progressive-oriented cable news channel,” Stelter wrote.

Olbermann responded with an extended tweet claiming that “anybody who describes my disposition towards Current as "disgruntled" is either uninformed, working from a personal agenda, wrong -- or all of the above.”

But the fact remains that Olbermann is off and his prime time cohorts are in.

Olbermann says he’s back tomorrow, but the real back story is anybody’s guess.

Pennsylvania Sharia Discriminates Against Iowa Marriage Laws - St. Luke's Hospital Healthcare Bethlehem Pa.

That according to St. Luke's Hospital and Heathcare Network based in Bethlehem Pa.

That forty years of Catholic politicians pushing Catholic Sharia law line by line in the Pennsylvania Legislature makes all marriages in Iowa null and void.  All the people in Iowa are living in sin?  All the Children produced by a man and a woman in Iowa are considered Bastards in Pennsylvania according to Pennsylvania State Christian Sharia Law?

Watching her father care for her dying mother was a sobering experience for St. Luke’s nurse Carol Stevens.

Stevens, 56, of North Whitehall Township, realized if her wife, Beth Goudy, became ill she would be ineligible for family, medical or bereavement leave because her employer of 14 years does not recognize Goudy as her spouse.

The couple wed in a religious ceremony May 6, 2007, in Pennsylvania and then legally married in Iowa in Goudy’s hometown Sept. 28, 2009. But their marriage is not recognized by Pennsylvania.

Request denied:

Stevens was heartened when she learned the St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network nondiscrimination policy had been updated to say it does not exclude, deny benefits to or otherwise discriminate against protected classes, including those grouped by “sexual preference, gender identity and expression.”

She thought it meant the network had changed its stance and was going to begin extending benefits like nearby Lehigh Valley Health Network does. Stevens added Goudy to her plan during open enrollment.

On Dec. 5, her request was denied. It is frustrating to be legally married in one state but not be recognized in another, Stevens said.

Allentown Diocese settles Discrimination lawsuit with Muslim bookkeeper

My friend Dave sent me this item.  He lives in the general area served by the newspaper. 

I am on the fence here.  I want to say something about this seemingly nasty hunky priest discriminating against this Muslim American bookkeeper.  But he is no Father Bill Breslin of Boulder Colorado with an issue of Cafeteria Dogma.

I have lived within a dozen blocks of this particular church in Easton and the people of Easton are insular and socially retarded in that backwater corner of the American culture.

The fact that Ms. Omayma Arafa worked for the diocese for two years says a lot about the diocese hiring her in the first place. 

That parish I believe shares its elementary school with another or several parishes and thus the need for the diocese having bookkeepers coming in from outside to do the parish books.

The bottom line is that she probably was the last hired and the first fired.

And the insular socially retarded comments of this priest just comes with everyday living in upstate Pennsylvania.  Get over it.

Diocese of Allentown settles lawsuit with former Muslim bookkeeper

According to court records: 

Arafa, who is an Egyptian Muslim, worked for the diocese from October 2007 until January 2009 when she was fired because her supervisor, Monsignor Edward Zemanik, "had a cold, distant and hostile attitude" toward her. 

Zemanik allegedly made comments about Arafa's religious beliefs. One day Zemanik saw her eating pizza and "hostilely inquired, 'Aren't there things you can't eat?'" When Arafa asked for a week off surrounding Christmas to spend time with her children, who were home, he allegedly asked her, "What do you care?" 

Arafa also made complaints about a volunteer, who harbored an "incredible disrespect" toward Arafa and said she "should not be there," because of her religion. Arafa claims nothing was done about the complaint.

In January 2009, Zemanik told Arafa that "things were going to change around here" and all of the diocesan employees were brought in to meet with managers. When Arafa met with her managers, including Zemanik, she was fired. The diocese told her that it could not afford to employ her and was going to hire an outside agency for bookkeeping. Arafa's job was eventually taken over by a non-Muslim male employee.

Monsignor Zemanik has since been reassigned to Saint Ambrose Church in Schuykill Haven, Pa..

Cardinal Chaput Offers to Sell His 61 Room Palace in Philly

$200 Million Property - 16 ? Rooms

Cardinal Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia is threatening to sell his 61 room Mansion at 5700 City Avenue in Philadelphia.  Yeah right.  It is perhaps a sincere for the moment and or a feigned gesture to offset all the pain of school and parish closings coming on the scheduled January 6, 2012 announcement.

The Philadelphia Inquirer misreported the scale and dimensions of this mega mansion that Philadelphia Archbishops have lived in since the 1930s with the infamous Cardinal Dougherty being the first.  Dougherty was the one that staged a successful Catholic boycott of the “Jewish Movie Industry” in the 30's in order to censor every movie produced in Hollywood at the time.  Can’t find a decent photo of him on the net but I believe there is a Thomas Eakins portrait of him in the Philadelphia Museum of Art when he was an ambitious monsignor on the make.  Thomas Eakins portraits did not come cheap back when.  Humble.  Humble. Humble.

Anyway, the Inquirer that these days seems to censor and or clear all its reporting of Cardinal Chaput’s new regime through the Chancery, had posted a niggardly photo, cloaked by massive trees, of the back of the mansion, the servant's wing no doubt, and states that it is 16 rooms (on which floor?).  More like 61 rooms in this “Neverland” fantasy palace for the bishops of Philly.  Cardinal Krol had a three hole golf course on the back part of this 8.7 acre chateau. 

I estimate you could build at least 200 luxury condos on the property at an easy one to two million minimum apiece.  Money, money, money is needed for the tens of millions of dollars going to the lawyers and child abuse settlements and show trials about to begin in the Spring there in Philly. Sell the Prince Crib or close a dozen or two high schools and grade schools? Tuff choice. Whatever.

Cardinal Chaput is only offering to sell the property to offset all the pain the faithful will have to endure on the Feast of the Three Kings January 6. The offer of this property sale and its likely million dollar a year upkeep will be no doubt be forgotten January 7 and misreported and or never again reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Doctor Nicola Riley of Utah – Victim of the American Politics of Vagina and Christian Sharia

In America, Doctors who operate within the law or have to use loopholes in laws to perform female medical procedures such as abortion will continue to be harassed and even killed by Christian Sharia fanatics who stalk and lobby for some pure state of religious excellence.

I shall not comment on some of the aspects of this case, but I do know Doctor Nicola Riley personally.  I have known her since she was a young teen and can remember when she went off to West Point in those days when females at the Point were a novel thing.

I don’t know anything about her legal problems in the military but she left prison to start a new life and entered Medical School in Utah.  Her services to the elderly and the poor were needed there until such services got commoditized on some big corporate spreadsheet thing in Utah.

She had been working with the elderly and Medicaid crowd as I understand it, before that human level of care got turned into a business racket by perhaps religious institutions looking to the future on spreadsheet graph sheets and seeing only the piles of money to be made in giving aging Boomers minimum care at maximum government rates in shitty nursing homes, now seemingly the standard in Utah.

That I hear it is getting near close to impossible to find a major nursing home enterprise in Utah that is headed by minorities, or non-Mormons, male or female. They have all been shown the door.  When such care and profits from it were marginal, services from out-of-staters, minorities and non-Mormons were needed.  That has all changed in free market deregulated capitalistic Utah.

That young green inexperienced female Mormon doctors from the U of U are brought in to sign off on anything the accountants recommend in these for profit only nursing facilities.  Ethics is out the door not unlike what I witnessed in Wall Street where green kids out of college were told how to steal the national treasury etc. – the public be damned.

These young green rubber stamps now head these money making business enterprises and are now in charge of the elderly there.  If I had a choice between a nursing home in America or suicide, I would gladly choose suicide rather than rot for years in my own urine and feces and depend on care from minimum wage, low or no benefits attendants and illegals at pre-morgue care nursing homes, Utah style.

Getting back to the politics of Vagina and male right-wing politicians wanting a show trial in Maryland to prove once and for all that all women have no rights in the use of their body or a free choice in medical care regarding female medical procedures – I am now reading my bible to find a passage in that noble book to prove that prostate care or surgery is a sin against the Almighty and that all Catholic and Christian Sharia law should equally condemn it with birth control and abortion.

This culture war in America on the human Vagina is getting ridiculous.

No doubt Doctor Riley, squeezed out of the Utah medical work previously available to non-whites and non-Mormons, had to supplement her income in Maryland or New Jersey to pay her student loans to become a doctor. No doubt that is how she came to become a doctor that performed abortions.  And no doubt, as a human being, she is capable of making a mistake in her desired profession.

I know Nicola’s family that has its roots in good, wholesome, working class, middle class Harlem and a Roman Catholic Church that used to care about people and not the bottom line of spreadsheets.

I wish her well and no doubt after being stalked and harassed by the Right Wing Lobbying Industrial “Morality” Complex, she will emerge, vindicated, stronger and run for office and become the first female minority senator or governor of that great state of Utah. Much reform is needed there regarding the human condition.
