U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes met Saturday for the first time in a year, sparring on the stage at the annual Fancy Farm Picnic in western Kentucky.

With the crowd a bit better behaved than in past years, Grimes hammered on McConnell, listing a series of her policy positions and urging to respond that McConnell "doesn't care."

The crowd of ... was loud and boisterous as always but they didn't chant throughout the entire speeches, largely complying with the request of St. Jerome Catholic Church officials who organize the picnic.

"When you agree with what they say, cheer. If you disagree, boo." Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham urged the crowd. "And then shut up and let them go on with their speech."

Public officials, media outlets and members of the public who use the words torture and coercion interchangeably are making a huge mistake - one that could threaten our safety and security.

Formerly top-secret documents declassified recently by the Obama administration describe in detail 10 interrogation techniques, including the now-infamous water-boarding. This has led to the unfortunate branding of all coercive techniques as torture.

We cannot apply absolutes to these ambiguous scenarios. We need reasonable guidelines that allow discretion for those risking their lives to gather the information needed to protect us.

 And finally: Shall we address water-boarding? It is critical to remember that contrary to the portrayal in some media, enhanced techniques were used principally on hardened terrorists who refused to cooperate through rapport building and other noncoercive methods.

 For example, intelligence officials believed Abu Zubaydah, a hardcore terrorist and planner of the 9/11 attacks, retained valuable insight into the inner workings of al-Qaida at the highest levels. He had successfully resisted all other methods of interrogation. However, it is almost impossible to train to resist water-boarding. Ultimately, he lasted 32 seconds. Given this context, I am confident most Americans would not object to using that technique.

 U.S. policy must authorize the use of certain interrogation methods that fall below the threshold of torture. We cannot allow our enemies to draw a moral equivalence between compelling a prisoner to kneel for 10 minutes and chopping off his fingers one by one. Our government must insist that making a terrorist uncomfortable should not be confused, or in any way equated, with torture.

Benedict's trip to Britain in 2010 cost the taxpayers the equivalent of $20 million dollars in security in a country where there is no separation of Church and State.

The justification for paying for these pope visits in the past here has been that the Pope is the Head of State of 120 Acres in the middle of the City of Rome Italy.

I hope the good Catholics in Philly dig real deep in their pockets to pay for their mafia king's visit in 2015 and not do the deadbeat thing and stick the security cost to U.S. taxpayers again.

Here is an interesting op-ed piece about one of the fanatical pre-founding fathers, Roger Williams of Rhode Island, that wanted a separation of church from the state because of all the confusing passages in the bible and everyone’s different embrace and interpretation of such.

Dan White – Bishop Finn – Incest? – Separation of Church and State?

Bishop Finn of Kansas City has presumably entered into a plea bargain in Clay County Missouri, the county where Father Ratigan lives, works and plays.

Bishop Finn will meet once a month with Prosecuting Attorney Daniel White to discuss any and all things related to Child Abuse and Child Endangerment for a period of five years.

Sounds a bit like Probation and meeting with your probation officer. Whatever.

One question.  If Bishop Finn resigns, as all decent Catholics in Kansas City / St. Joseph Missouri want him to, in order to protect their children, does he still have to report to Dan White? Or does Bishop Finn have to stay in a religious appointment because of the say so of the secular civil authority?

Come again?

I thought there was a separation of Church and State in this Country.  An established accepted taboo not unlike the taboo against incest. 

 

This prosecutor has in effect locked job security into the legal equation for Bishop Finn for five more years, long suffering years for the good people in his diocese?  Tell me I am wrong. 

Or, that if Finn resigns tomorrow, Clay County will be satisfied that a dangerous person has left a job in which he has done harm and can continue to do harm to the community – and Probation ends for Bishop Finn?  Finn can then leave town?

Where is this written contract between White and Finn for constitutional lawyers to analyze and comment on?

What is Dan White getting out of this sudden incestuous relationship in bed with Bobbie Finn or the RCC?  Dan White is signing off on Vatican orders? USCCB? Who does he work for really? Who or what is he protecting?  Bishop Finn’s church job?

There is certainly nothing in it for the citizens of Missouri who basically are stuck with an incompetent, uncaring cleric on a five year learning curve regarding a quest for humanity in his job description.

Business as usual in Clay County?  Hide your children?
