Polish Cardinal Dziwisz Criticizes Benedict’s Decision to Run from Duty - "You don't get down from the Cross".

A POLISH cardinal caused a stir in the Vatican yesterday with remarks in a radio interview that appeared to criticise Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign. Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Cracow, secretary to the late Pope John Paul II, was quoted as saying that Benedict's predecessor had decided to remain Pope while dying an agonising death from Parkinson's because "you don't get down from the Cross". The Vatican insisted that the remarks had been misunderstood after being taken out of context, as the Polish prelate had praised the German Pope, a close friend of John Paul II. Cardinal Dziwisz insisted that he did not mean to imply any criticism.
