This Cultural Christian's Creed

I believe in one God, one Universe created by God, and the bounty of all things and possibilities flowing from that creation.

I believe in the words of the anointed one Jesus as spoken in the Sermon on the Mount.

He was crucified under the Roman Govenor Pontius Pilate, suffered, died and was buried.  On the third day following his death he rose from the dead by the hand of God according to Scriptures before ascending into heaven.

The Anointed by God and man, the Christ, sits at the right hand of God. He bears witness to all mankind’s hurts and pleasures and will stand in judgement to all who have not lived by and in the light of God’s love to humanity.

As Holy Man and Prophet, he is first among equals of all men born of women, and is the way, truth, light and path to a higher level of understanding of things human and spiritual.

I believe in the Spirit of God among us and in us and through us. Believers, the children of God, the people of God must stand for all things good, humble, holy and divine.

(as a Christian, I do not believe in the direct divinity of Jesus of Nazareth. I do believe that mankind has anointed this holy man and prophet to be the focal point of faith and Christian history. I believe that Jesus happened in history and every age must redefine both the man and his mission.)

  1. This one fits at the moment but change is inevitable.I believe in a God of Love,Light,Truth, and Spirit, the creator of the universe, whom we are called to seek, know, and love; and whose nature was revealed to the world in the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Also that the universal commandment is to love and serve one another as each loves oneself. Also in the law of justice by which actions generate consequences, whether to be manifested in this life or the life to come. Also in the ultimate triumph of divine mercy and grace:that no being ever created will be condemned or allowed to suffer forever, but God has arranged through a benevolent plan of learning and growth for all souls to attain salvation, reconciliation, restoration, and reunion with the Source of All Being, in the fullness of the ages. Also every person is the divine offspring of God, created in the image of the Heavenly Parent of all; and that every person is destined to be raised up from imperfection to maturity according to the pattern of the archetypal Christ, the Son of God, the Perfect Human in whose image all humanity shall be transformed. Also in miracles and mysterious spiritual phenomena, such as the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which transcend materialistic views of reality. Also that God's Holy Spirit has inspired numerous prophets, saints, philosophers, and mystics throughout history, in a variety of cultures and traditions; and that reading the Bible and other great texts of spiritual and moral wisdom with a discerning mind, and meditating to connect to the Spirit within, we may all gain a greater understanding of truth, which should be applied for the betterment of ourselves and our world.

  2. The above is from the CUA..Christian Universalist Association literature. Not a big creed person but they are a good reference point and a directional sign of sorts. Have returned to Bishop Spong and his latest and last???book. I admire his work and endorse this one regarding Eternal Life..
